CORM organic CORMs

This volume, together with the first volume entitled Carbohydrates and Sustainable Development, Part 1 - Renewable Resources for Chemistry and Biotechnology, demonstrates that a variety of industrial products can be accessed using renewable and low-cost biomass. Both volumes are based on selected papers presented at Carbohydrates as Organic Raw Materials V - Building a Sustainable Future (CORM V), held in Lisbon in January 2009. The conference was chaired by Amelia Pilar Ranter (University of Lisboa) and Yves Queneau (University of Lyon, INSA Lyon), in collaboration with Frieder W. Lichtenthaler (Technische... [Pg.210]

The two books, Vols. 294 and 295, are based on the lectures presented at the Carbohydrates as Organic Raw Materials (CORM) V conference held in Lisbon (January 20-23, 2009), organized and chaired by Amelia PUar Ranter (University of Lisboa) and Yves Queneau (University of Lyon, INS A Lyon), with the collaboration of Frieder Lichtenthaler (Technische Universitat Darmstadt) as Honorary Chairman, who has also started these meetings in 1990. A series of conferences took place until... [Pg.213]

Complexes such as [Ru(CO)3Q2(THF)] or [Ru(CO)3Cl2(DMSO] are formed upon dissolution of CORM-2 in the pure solvents or by reaction with ligands like pyridine or thiazole in organic solvents. One of the CO ligands may also be displaced. Upon dissolution of CORM-2 in DMSO, the complex [Ru(CO)3Cl2(OSMe2)] and the cis, tr s,cis-RuQ2(DMSO)2(CO)2 isomer are formed, and some CO is liberated to the headspace. [Pg.193]

These results suggest that CORM-3 is transported in circulation as a serum albumin or transferrin adduct that slowly decomposes to release CO without sudden bursts. This kind of mechanism is supported by the observation of steady, low levels of CO in the treatment of mice with CORM-3 in a cardiovascular model [83], One important consequence of this mechanism is that it lacks tissue specificity. Actually, CORM-3 is active in a broad variety of indications affecting different tissues and organs [62, 66]. Interestingly, the methylthiogalactose ligand was able to convey a reasonable liver specificity to complex ALF492 (Fig. 41.2), which became much more efficacious then CORM-3 in the protection of mice in a model of cerebral malaria [82]. [Pg.551]

Within each Part, chapters are included on all available types of primary batteries, secondary batteries and batteries available in primary and secondary versions. The primary batteries include carbon-zinc, carbon-zinc chloride, mercury-zinc and other mercury types, manganese dioxide-magnesium perchlorate, magnesium organic, lithium types (sulphur dioxide, thionyl chloride, vanadium pentoxide, iodine and numerous other lithium types), thermally activated and seawater batteries. Batteries available in primary and secondary Corms include alkaline manganese, silver-zinc, silver-cadmium, zinc-air and cadmium-air. The secondary batteries discussed include lead-acid, the nickel types (cadmium, iron, zinc, hydrogen), zinc-chlorine, sodium-sulphur and other fast ion types. [Pg.13]
