Figure 4a represents interfacial polymerisation encapsulation processes in which shell formation occurs at the core material—continuous phase interface due to reactants in each phase diffusing and rapidly reacting there to produce a capsule shell (10,11). The continuous phase normally contains a dispersing agent in order to faciUtate formation of the dispersion. The dispersed core phase encapsulated can be water, or a water-immiscible solvent. The reactant(s) and coreactant(s) in such processes generally are various multihmctional acid chlorides, isocyanates, amines, and alcohols. For water-immiscible core materials, a multihmctional acid chloride, isocyanate or a combination of these reactants, is dissolved in the core and a multihmctional amine(s) or alcohol(s) is dissolved in the aqueous phase used to disperse the core material. For water or water-miscible core materials, the multihmctional amine(s) or alcohol(s) is dissolved in the core and a multihmctional acid chloride(s) or isocyanate(s) is dissolved in the continuous phase. Both cases have been used to produce capsules. [Pg.320]

A special attribute of these processes is the abiHty to pre-position reinforcement, inserts, and core materials for stiffening ribs. Gel coatings can be apphed to the mold surface to eliminate post-mold finishing. Because both surfaces of the part are formed in a mold to close tolerances, accurate assemblies are possible, which is a requirement for many automotive or tmck body appHcations. [Pg.95]

The accuracy of a VT depends upon its leakage reactance and the winding resistance. It determines the voltage and the phase errors of a transformer and varies with the VA on the secondary side. With the use of better core material (for permeability) (Section 1.9) and better heat dissipation, one can limit the excitation cunent and reduce the error. A better core lamination can reduce the core size and improve heat dissipation. [Pg.458]

Using low cost material to meet high performance requirements will compromise their integrity. As an example, the cost of a mold cavity and core materials, for more than 90% of the molds, is less than 5% of the total mold cost. Thus it does not make sense to compromise mold integrity to save a few... [Pg.573]

The ten interviews I conducted with students between the ages of thirteen and seventeen provide the core materials for this chapter. Several of the interviewees for this book were college students whose experiences with medications began during high school or earlier. Since their accounts often contained rich detail about their middle school and high school... [Pg.272]

NIL patterns were also used for the assembly of nanoparticles via supramole-cular host-guest interactions.95 The NIL-patterned substrate was functionalized with CD SAMs via a three-step synthesis process. The fabrication of 3D nanostructures was achieved by the alternating assembly of multivalent guest-functionalized dendrimers and CD-fnnctionalized Au nanoparticles.88 This methodology can be applied to various nanoparticles, regardless of their size and core material. For instance, CD-functionalized silica and polystyrene nanoparticles were adsorbed onto NIL-patterned CD SAMs with preadsorbed guest-fnnctionalized dendrimers.60 92 Recently, Huskens et al. demonstrated the supramolecular LbL assembly of 3D multicomponent nanostructures of nanoparticles by alternating assembly steps of complementary ferrocenyl-functionalized silica nanoparticles and different kinds of host-fnnctionalized nanoparticles (see Fig. 13.8).66... [Pg.426]

An energy-absorbing foam has been used as a bumper core material for automobiles (195). Sound and vibration damping of viscoelastic MDI-based IPN foams was reported by klempner et al (50) and Gansen et al (194). [Pg.68]

It is interesting to note that foamed composites are suitable sandwich core materials for FRP boats (8). Cross-ties (or sleepers) for railroads, especially for use in tunnels and subways, are very promising applications. Japanese National raUways carried out a long-term test in a tunnel, and the results were excellent. [Pg.179]

Particles resulting from the o/w method were found to have a size of 100 nm. After washing, an incorporation of 5.2% peptide was obtained, with recovery being 47% compared to 1.7% incorporated peptide, and 63% recovery with the w/o/w method particle size was 200 nm. Release experiments with lipospheres containing a lipid core have shown sustained release ranging from a few hours to several days. The preferred core material for delayed release, according to Domb, is a polymer such as polylactide [1],... [Pg.7]
