Copper chromates

Chromia—alumina catalysts are prepared by impregnating T-alumina shapes with a solution of chromic acid, ammonium dichromate, or chromic nitrate, followed by gentie calciaation. Ziac and copper chromites are prepared by coprecipitation and ignition, or by thermal decomposition of ziac or copper chromates, or organic amine complexes thereof. Many catalysts have spiael-like stmctures (239—242). [Pg.149]

Of the series of additives copper chromate, copper chloride, nickel oxide, iron(III) oxide or magnesium oxide, the earlier members have the greatest effect in increasing the sensitivity of the explosive salt towards heat, impact or friction. [Pg.1421]

Copper(ll) chromite is obtained by heating copper chromate, CuCr04 at 400°C. The Adkin catalyst, a mixture of copper oxide and copper chromite, is prepared by mixing aqueous solutions of copper nitrate, sodium dichromate and ammonium hydroxide the orange precipitate of copper ammonium chromate formed is dried and then heated below 400°C. [Pg.265]

Thus it is not copper chromate which acts directly as a catalyst but it first gets converted to CuO or Cu20 which actually catalyzes the reaction [263]. Rastogi et al. have reported that CaC03 is a better catalyst in comparison to CuO in PS/AP composite propellants [264]. [Pg.285]

The bands form in a few days and consist of amorphous copper chromate of a reddish-brown color. [Pg.173]

Water-borne preservatives are divided into two categories. One group which includes acid copper chromate, chromated zinc chloride, copperized chromated zinc arsenate and fluorchrome-arsenate-phenol is used where the wood is not subjected to excessive leaching. The second group, ammoniacal copper arseuite and three types of chromated copper arsenate which react to become practically water insoluble, are used at about 0.6 lb/ft3 (9.6 kg/m3) when wood is placed in ground contact under severe service conditions. [Pg.1752]

Copper chromates have been used as mordants in dying and in some pyrotechnic compns. For example a blue light rifle signal light compn developed at PicArsn(Ref 5) contained Cu(II) chromate 25, K perchlorate 65 Cu resinate 10% it burned at the rate 3.5in/min developing CP 485/sq in Refs l)Mellor 11(1931), 260 2)Ullmann 5 (1954), 588 3)Sax(l957), 5l6(Toxicity fire hazard of basic salt) 4)CondChemDict(l961), 30l(Prepn props of basic salt) 5)G.J. [Pg.63]

The timber used in this type of cooling tower is commonly pressure-treated redwood, Douglas fir, and other wood species, the preservative being chromated copper arsenate or, more usually today, acid copper chromate. Despite the wood preservative, it is not uncommon to find wood decay and biological fouling of the plenum area and drift eliminators. [Pg.11]
