Cooling pressurized

One was a water-moderated and water-cooled pressurized reactor the other was a Hquid-metal-cooled iatermediate neutron energy reactor. A land-based prototype submafine power plant called Mark I was built and tested at the National Reactor Testing Station. Argonne National Laboratory provided scientific data and Bettis Laboratory of Westinghouse Electric Corp. suppHed engineering expertise. [Pg.223]

Temperature control is unlikely to be effective for condensers, unless the liquid stream is sub-cooled. Pressure control is often used, as shown in Figure 5.17d, or control can be based on the outlet coolant temperature. [Pg.230]

Pressure Drop. Baffling must be designed to keep the pressure drop as low as possible. The higher the pressure drop, the higher the energy consumption and the harder the job of attaining proper vent end sub-cooling. Pressure drop is lower at the outlet end because of smaller mass flow. [Pg.95]

In a chemical process, the transformation of raw materials into desired chemical products usually cannot be achieved in a single step. Instead, the overall transformation is broken down into a number of steps that provide intermediate transformations. These are carried out through reaction, separation, mixing, heating, cooling, pressure change, particle size reduction or enlargement. Once individual steps have been selected, they must be interconnected to carry out the... [Pg.4]

A detailed description of LP Rocket Systems is beyond the scope of this article. An excellent account of many of the facets of LP rockets, such as combustor design, cooling, pressurization prior to combustion, and pump systems, is given in Ref 12, pp 475-516... [Pg.600]

To a cooled pressure autoclave are added 288 gm (4.0 moles) of isobutyralde-hyde, 150 gm of potassium carbonate, 500 ml of xylene, and 200 gm (4.4 moles) of dimethylamine. The autoclave is sealed, and rocked, or stirred for 4 hr at 100°C, cooled, vented, and opened. The liquid is distilled to afford 122 gm of a forerun, b.p. 53°-87°C, and then 216 gm (55 %) of the enamine, b.p. 87°-88°C, n d° 1.4221. Less xylene and potassium carbonate gave poor results. In addition, if the distillation is not carried out immediately after the reaction, lower yields of the enamine are possible. [Pg.55]

Pressure sintering and cooling is more often used for compounds than for virgin resins. In this process the preform is either sintered and cooled in a confined mold or placed into a special self-supporting frame. The frame is placed into an oven with the pressure cylinder outside, actuating the piston to compress the preform in the mold. Different sinter/cooling/pressure cycles can minimize certain physical properties for each different compound. The disadvantage of this method is that the product has a... [Pg.63]

The second part of the test rig consists of a combustion air preheater, a specially designed LCV gas burner, a flue gas cooler and a pressure control valve. The LCV gas combustor is situated in a water cooled pressure vessel. This swirl-diffusion combustor has a centric position in the ceramic combustion chamber. From the central symmetry axis of the burner to the outer wall the gas flows are in annular spaces whereby in the inner annulus primary air is added with swirl to the LCV gas and in the outer annulus secondary air is added. [Pg.476]

The compound (CH3)3N—BF(C2Hs)2 is prepared in a 500 mL flask, equipped with a 200-mL cooled pressure-equalizing graduated dropping funnel, thermometer tube, a magnetic stirrer, and a reflux condenser with a gas bypass and a bubbler. Then 112 g (1.89 mol) of trimethylamine is dropped from the dropping funnel ( — 35°) to the stirred (C2Hs)2BF (146 g, 1.67 mol) at 0°. Intensive mist in the flask shows the formation of the complex compound. After the addition (1.5 h), the product is distilled under vacuum 233.7 g (95%) of a colorless, clear liquid with bp = 49° at 14 torr is obtained. [Pg.79]

Fig. 33 shows the coaxial design of the hot gas duct shown with the example of a bend. It consists of a inner flow guidance tube, the surrounding Kaowool mat insulation, the cold gas tube (where the cold helium flows in counterflow to the hot helium), the outer Kaowool-insulation and the water cooled pressure bearing tube. [Pg.229]
