Westinghouse Electrical Corp

Westinghouse Electric Corp. initiated a program to develop air-cooled PAFC stacks, containing cooling plates at six-ceU intervals. Full size 100-kW stacks (468 cells, 0.12-m electrode area) were built, and a module containing four of these stacks was tested. An air-cooled stack operated at 0.480 MPa yielded a cell voltage of 0.7 V at 267 m A /cm (187 mW/cm ). Demonstration of this technology is plarmed for a site in Norway. [Pg.583]

Another reactor that was approved for development was a land-based prototype submarine propulsion reactor. Westinghouse Electric Corp. designed this pressurized water reactor, using data collected by Argonne. Built at NRTS, the reactor used enriched uranium, the metal fuel in the form of plates. A similar reactor was installed in the submarine l autilus. [Pg.214]

One was a water-moderated and water-cooled pressurized reactor the other was a Hquid-metal-cooled iatermediate neutron energy reactor. A land-based prototype submafine power plant called Mark I was built and tested at the National Reactor Testing Station. Argonne National Laboratory provided scientific data and Bettis Laboratory of Westinghouse Electric Corp. suppHed engineering expertise. [Pg.223]

The photooxidation was carried out in a commercial weathero-meter (Q-UV, Q-panel Co., Cleveland, Ohio). This apparatus uses medium pressure mercury fluorescent UV lamps (Sunlamps F5-40, Westinghouse Electric Corp.) which emit UV light in the 273-378 nm range with a maximum intensity at 310 nm. [Pg.264]
