Coolers and Dryers

B Stagnated flow area not subjected to direct flow remains cooler and dryer. [Pg.332]

Some coolers and dryers can be in a form of contactors such as the rotary kiln itself, although some are packed-bed contactors such as grate coolers. Rotary coolers can be either in-line or attached (Figure 1.8), the number of which is determined by a simple formula... [Pg.10]

Alfalfa dehydration is carried out in a direct-fired rotary dryer. The dried product is transported pneumatically to an air cooler and then to a collecting cyclone. The collected particles are ground or pelletized and then packaged for shipment. The major atmospheric emission from the process is particulate matter, which is controlled by baghouses. Odors may also be a problem, but they disperse rapidly and are no longer a problem at distances of over 1 km. [Pg.511]

It must be noted that increasing the amount of solvent in the ICP produces a higher load on the plasma and an increase in reflected powers, causing plasma instability. Desolvation of the sample aerosol may overcome this hurdle and is achieved by the use of a cooled spray chamber. In addition, Peltier coolers and membrane dryers [23] have been used for desolvating liquid aerosols and eliminate approximately 90% of the aerosol (Fig. 10.3). Spray chambers may also im-... [Pg.380]

Other flaky chemicals obtained from drum coolers or dryers that have similar properties as those of the fresh DMT can be similarly converted into dense free flowing intermediate products by pelleting, briquetting, or compaction/granulation. Drum dryers feature heated drums that either dip into a bath of suspended particles or are coated by means of axial dispensers with the suspension. As in the case of drum coolers, dry solids are removed from the drum with scrapers and are typically bulky and dusty before suitable agglomeration has taken place. [Pg.1418]

Vapors (from drying) are removed at the feed end of the dryer to the atmosphere through a natural-draft stack and settling chamber or wet scrubber. When employed in simple drying operations with 3.5 x 10 to 10 X 10 Pa steam, draft is controlled by a damper to admit only sufficient outside air to sweep moisture from the cylinder, discharging the air at 340 to 365 K and 80 to 90 percent saturation. In this way, shell gas velocities and dusting are minimized. When used for solvent recovery or other processes requiring a sealed system, sweep gas is recirculated throu a scrubber-gas cooler and blower. [Pg.1213]

As a result, the mill changed the drying profile to give cooler earlier dryers and slow gradient to hot dryers which then achieved more efficient sizing. [Pg.94]

Lost foam foundries include a foam workshop, a melting shop and a casting shop. They do not have an extensive core-making shop and finishing shop. The foam shop involves foaming machines, steam generators and coolers and ambient air dryers. [Pg.200]

Optimize compressor operation, reduce friction and air leakages in air distribution system, low pressure drop air coolers and instruments, reduction of air leaks, use of heat of compression dryers, cool compressor suction air, waste heat recovery at compressor inter-stage coolers, better control Install additional compressors in parallel. Use of heat of compression dryer Use cogeneration, ORC, KC or (hydraulic) power recovery turbines... [Pg.50]

Most rotating equipment includes electric motors or steam dryers that generate noise at a constant frequency. Air cooler fans are a source of noise that can be reduced by lowering the fan speed and increasing the number of blades. Pump motor noise can be reduced by including a shroud or fan cover that is accurately lined. Centrifugal compressor noise reduction can be achieved by blade design and the use of compressor pulsation noise reduction, silencers, and vibration isolation. [Pg.83]

Direct rotai y dryer (cooler). This is usually a bare metal cyhnder, with or without flights. It is suitable for low- and medium-temperature operations, the operating temperature being hmited primarily by the strength characteristics of the metal employed in fabrication. [Pg.1200]

The plate dryer is limited in its scope of apphcations only in the consistency of the feed material (the products must be friable, free flowing, and not undergo phase changes) and diying temperatures up to 320°C. Applications include speci ty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, foods, polymers, pigments, etc. Initial moisture or volatile level can be as high as 65 percent and the unit is often used as a final dryer to take materials to a bone-dry state, if necessary. The plate dryer can also be used for heat treatment, removal of waters of hydration (bound moisture), solvent removal, and as a product cooler. [Pg.1216]
