Drift van der A. and Olsen A. (1999) Conversion of biomass, prediction and solution methods for ask agglomeration and related problems. Final Report EU-project JOR3-95-0079 (ECN-report ECN-C-99-090). 

The project was aimed at the development of an innovative gasifier based on the reverse-flow principle. It should result in an improvement in thermal efficiency, and enabling the conversion of biomass with high ash contents and low ash-melting point. 

A geographical distribution of current biomass thermochemical conversion projects sponsored by the Biomass Energy Systems Branch is shown in Figure 5.

The goals of this catalyst screening project are to gain insight into the conversion of biomass pyrolysis products with a variety of catalysts and under a range of conditions. Three topics will be discussed here catalyst and parameter screening, MBMS estimation of yield, and model compound conversion. 

Kazuo worked tirelessly to promote basic research on photosynthesis, both at home in the creation of "Green Energy" and "Biomass Conversion" projects, as well as internationally to promote binational or multinational research programs including the "U.S.-Japan Program of Cooperation in Photoconversion and Photosynthesis".
