Conventional heating systems

District heating systems are often financed by municipal bonds at low interest rates, to be repaid over a 30- to 40-year period. This makes the annual cost per home competitive with or less than that of conventional heating systems. 

Conventional heating systems burn fossil fuels at high temperatures to heat water to 120°F. Most district heating systems operate in the same way. In these cases, when the hot water cools to 90°F or less, it is no longer warm enough to supply heating. This remaining heat is eventually lost to the environment. An ICES can recover this low-temperature heat that would otherwise be wasted. This helps to increase system efficiency. 

Instrument Company systems apply microwave heating, whereas the High Pressure Asher has a conventional heating system. 

Microwave and Conventional Heating Systems. A General Electric Space Maker 500 Watt Microwave Oven at 2450 MHZ was used in the preparation of all microwave samples. A standard General Electric Hotpoint electric range or a hot water bath was used to prepare conventional heated samples. 

Other reactions, such as the formation and degradation of 1-amino-1-deoxyketoses, were previously reported to proceed to a much greater extent in microwave products than in those prepared by conventional heating systems (5). 

If the solar system is less ambitious and designed to provide only part of the heat, the cost of the solar collecting system is less. In this case, the cost of the solar harvesting system must be added to the cost a second heating plant to heat the house when solar heat is inadequate. With the combined costs of solar and conventional heating systems, the dual system requires 15 to 20 years for the savings in conventional fuel costs to equal the cost of the solar collectors. Because of the complexity, maintenance problems and costs there is little incentive to install solar heating in homes.

The predicted energy saving of 76.5 TOE could not be proofed because of the short operating period. But there is no doubt that the absorber plant would have fulfilled this requirement, because the installed power of approx. 600 kW (with top and bottom cover sheets installed) exceeds the installed power of 540 kW of the conventional heating system of the Bonner Zementwerke AG.
