Control attempts

Aquatic animals are susceptible to a variety of diseases including those caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. A range of chemicals and vacciaes has been developed for treating the known diseases, although some conditions have resisted all control attempts to date and severe restrictions on the use of therapeutants ia some nations has impaired that abiUty of aquaculturists to control disease outbreaks. The United States is a good example of a nation ia which the variety of treatment chemicals is limited (Table 6). [Pg.22]

Solving an indoor air quality problem is a cyclical process of data collection and hypothesis testing. Deeper and more detailed investigation is needed to suggest new hypotheses after any unsuccessful or partially-successful control attempt. Even the best planned investigations and mitigation actions may not produce a resolution to the problem. You may have made a careful investigation, found one or more apparent causes for the problem, and implemented a control system. Nonetheless,... [Pg.235]

Both of the reactions are exothermic (Ai = — 1 x 105 kJ/kmol and A2 = —1.5 x 105 kJ/kmol). Heat is transferred to the jacket surrounding the vessel. If an aspect ratio of 1 is assumed, the diameter of the vessel is 2.12 m and the total jacket area is 14.14 m2. Cooling water at 10°C is fed to the jacket at a maximum flowrate of 0.2 m3/min. A temperature controller attempts to control the reactor temperature TR at 40°C by manipulating cooling water flowrate ( w. A circulating cooling water system is assumed, so the water in... [Pg.235]

The PCU shaft speed response appears in Figures 18 and 19. There is an initial overshoot in the first second as the controller attempts to maintain 60 Hz. The overshoot dies out within three seconds and the speed returns to the set point value. The permissible magnitude and time rate of change of the overshoot is governed by mechanical design considerations. The constants in the PI speed controller can be modified as needed to reduce overshoot. Bypass flow rate shown in Figure 20 peaks at almost half of the full power PCU flow rate. [Pg.427]

By the direct fluorination with elemental fluorine, it is still difficult to prepare pure compounds C6oF.v and C70F of specific fluorine content because the reaction between fluorine gas and solid state C6o and C70 proceeds under heterogeneous conditions and, therefore, lacks control. Attempts to prepare stoichiometrically pure compounds have become successful using solid phase reactions between fullerenes and metal fluorides. These are described in the next section. It has been unsuccessful so far, but efforts are being made to produce fluorinated fullerenes C6oF v of lower fluorine content (x < 18) [24],... [Pg.559]

Like Pt, chlorided gamma-eta alumina has never been superseded, or even displaced as the prime support because it is thermally and physically robust, can be produced in high purity, and its acidity is moderate in strength, can be adjusted and controlled. Attempts to replace it with, for instance, rare earth-doped silica-alumina,141 whose acidity is fixed and permanent, have had limited success. [Pg.214]

The first is often referred to as reference trajectory and can be thought of as a filter on setpoint changes. The filtered setpoint in essence becomes a trajectory—the controller attempts to move the MVs so that the CV follows their individual trajectories. Increased filtering produces slower controller action. [Pg.1260]

Coding Coding methods for controls attempt to reduce and eUminate identification errors. Coding may help prevent accidental activation. Coding will have little effect on accidentally bumping a control or on population stereotypes... [Pg.473]

In general, the optimal control strategies are designed to allow the control of a molecular system without previous knowledge of its properties. However, we prefer to base our control attempts on a previously obtained microscopic understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms. This allows us to choose more subtle control targets and increase the efficiency of the overall process. [Pg.804]

Neither the Signaller nor the Train Controller attempted a Group Call nor did they attempt to contact the Train via its Stock Number ... [Pg.141]

When determining the mounting location for a reduced-voltage motor control, attempt at all costs to avoid mounting the device to a piece of equipment that constantly vibrates or has the tendency to shake during its normal operation. If this situation exists it may be necessary to mount the motor control off the machine, on a building support or other solid object. [Pg.654]

A mixing process consists of a single stirred-tank instrumented as shown in Fig. El 1.11. The concentration of a single species A in the feed stream varies. The controller attempts to compensate for this by varying the flow rate of pure A through the control valve. The transmitter dynamics are negUgible. [Pg.205]
