Continuous sheets decorative

Composites. The history of phenoHc resin composites goes back to the early development of phenoHc materials, when wood flour, minerals, and colorants were combined with phenoHc resins to produce mol ding compounds. In later appHcations, resin varnishes were developed for kraft paper and textile fabrics to make decorative and industrial laminates. Although phenoHcs have been well characterized in glass-reinforced composites, new developments continue in this area, such as new systems for Hquid-injection molding (LIM) and sheet-molding compounds (SMC). More compHcated composite systems are based on aramid and graphite fibers. 

Another route to protect polymers from oxygen, light and UV is to encapsulate the part with a continuous film of another, more-resistant polymer to provide a barrier to oxygen. This technology is also used for decoration of plastic parts (in mould decoration or IMD, painting, multilayer sheets for thermoforming. ..). There is no protection against heat.

A continuously manufactured sheet consisting of layers of fibrous sheet material (for example, paper) impregnated with phenolic and/or aminoplastic and/or polyester thermosetting resins, assembled and bonded together by means of heat and pressure, the outer layer or layers on one side having decorative colours or designs. 

For applications such as cladding fire-rated bulkheads and doors in ships and other vessels decor papers have been bonded directly to thin steel sheet. However, for these purposes steel coated with PVC and thin continuous laminate bonded to steel now are used more commonly. 

Roller High-speed continuous process provides excellent control on ttiickness. Large runs of flat sheets or coil stock required to justify equipment cost and setup time. Equipment cost is high. Metal decorating of sheet to be used for ahiminum siding, gutter and downspouts, and to fabricate cans, boxes.
