A tenth type of thinking error involves the content behind should or must statements. Should or must statements are detected in a client when she or he acts in a certain way because of a personal rule about life. Personal rules often develop as a result of personal experiences in some cases, rules about life are taught to or indoctrinated into the client by others. The problem is not necessarily the rules so much as their rigidity of application. A rule may have been functional (or helpful to the client) in the past, but no longer functions well in the present or a rule may be functional in some situations but not if applied universally, as some clients will do. Some examples of rules might include I have to be perfect or I have to take care of (fill in the name or role) or perhaps It is my obligation... 

Therefore, whereas the investigation of f-p mixing has given results in the case of UO2, where the 5f emission is well separated, one must content oneself at present with qualitative statements (such as those presented for PUO2) for the other oxides. 

These statements are made more precise and quantitative in the following way. However, there are circumstances where only one of the above claims is actually of practical relevance. For example if we have manufactured a batch of crude drug for sale, the purchaser will demand some statement as to its minimum purity, but will hardly insist that we guarantee that it does not contain more than a particular amount of the authentic material. What we can do in such a case is to calculate what is initially a 90 per cent confidence interval for true drug content, which will generate two statements ... 

In other words witness statements ought to be corroborated by documents that have stood up to critical examination. This applies particularly to such eyewitness testimony whose content is already questionable because it contradicts other eyewitness testimony of equal value.
