Theoretical description of molecular magnets has a history of several decades. The most investigated systems in the past were isotropic or weakly anisotropic magnetic molecules, for which the phenomenological modelling of their magnetic [Pg.180]

Solid-state sulfide compounds MMo2S4 (M = V, Cr, Fe, Co) contain infinite chains of Mo4S6 clusters with intracluster Mo-Mo distances (2.756-2.989 A) and intercluster distance (2.960 A) for the cobalt derivative (112). As the valence of M is +2, judging from magnetic measurements, and the average oxidation state of molybdenum +3, the CVE for M2Mo4S8 is 12. This agrees with five intracluster and one intercluster... [Pg.81]

It should be mentioned that several copper oxide compounds are described by this model. These compounds contain CuO chains and Cu — O — Cu angle 6 is near 90° [7]. In this case the usual antiferromagnetic super-exchange of two nearest-neighbor magnetic Cu ions is suppressed and the exchange integral J12 is... [Pg.777]

Figure 6.186(a) Hydraulic cylinder with integrated piston stroke sensor. The stroke sensor fixed at the cylinder bottom, a tube made of stainless steel, contains a chain of resistors and, connected to these, an adequate number of Reed contacts activated by a piston-integrated annular-shaped permanent magnet. A magnetically activated Reed contact works like the tap of a potentiometer. [Pg.354]

The synthesis of core-shell magnetic nanoparticles from polyacrylic acid (PAA) graft copolymers containing side chains of PEO and PPO (Fig. 5) was demonstrated by Hatton et al. [102]. Using a mixture of the polymers at a temperature of 180°C, amine-terminated PEO and PPO were coupled onto the PAA via amidation. Super-paramagnetic polymer-coated nanoparticles were synthesized by the hydrolysis and condensation of Fe(II) and Fe(III) chloride salts in the presence of PPO- or PEO-modified PAA copolymers. The extraction of organic compounds from aqueous media towards the copolymer shell of hydrophobic PPO segments can be applied in the field of water purification. [Pg.254]
