Phenols derived from lignin degradation were used as markers to determine the origin of waters of the Seine estuary in France. Thus, fluvial run-off contains syringic, hydroxyben-zoic and vanillic phenols, whereas upstream penetrating marine waters contain cinnamic phenols derived from the estuarine herbs. In the maximum turbidity zone the vanillic acid (38) to vanillin (39) ratio increases due to aerobic degradation of lignin . ... 

Because instruments and tools, etc., contaminated by the patients industrial chemicals are difficult to clean perfectly, it is handy to use disposable containers, syringes, stirrers or sticks to prepare test substances or dose them onto test chambers. Polypropylene is chemically inert and contains very few additional chemicals besides the polymer. If a liquid raw material dissolves plastic materials, glass containers should be used. Wooden stirrers and sticks may also be used. If the product is solid (in crystal or powder form), it can be pulverized using a mortar. 

These tests were performed using Salzman Bead Column Testl (Fig. 5), where whole human blood, freshly drawn, citrated and ther-mostated to 3 oc is passed from its containing syringe by aliquots of 1 ml through previously coated columns packed with 0.2 mm diameter glass beads. Each column offers an area of 400 cm" with a void volume of 0.5 ml. 

Sampling. Blood samples for PF levels were drawn from the contralateral arm at various intervals. The blood was allowed to clot at room temperature for about 25 min, the serum was separated by centrifuging (500 g, room temperature, 10 min) and stored at -80 C. Blood for OAD activity and leukocyte counting was obtained in heparin-containing syringes (final heparin cone 7 iil/ml) both prior and after PF administration.

Cacus was still discussing Syrinx s status with the medical team as the zero-tau pod containing her body was rolled into the ambulance.
