Consumers different categories

The inventory analysis is a technical process of collecting data, in order to quantify the inputs and outputs of the system. Energy and raw materials consumed, emissions to air, water, soil and solid waste produced by the system are calculated for the entire life cycle of the product or service. To make this analysis easier, the system under study is split into several subsystems and unit processes, and the data obtained are grouped in different categories in a LCI table. 

Transfer printing uses specialist paper printed by an inkjet printer with sublimation or other dyestuffs for later transfer to a textile substrate. Bulk volumes for yardage will be printed onto rolls of paper for later matching with rolls of imprinted fabric, whereas smaller amounts of transfers are likely to be printed onto paper precut to size. Used extensively in commercial garment decoration, such papers are also available for the home or hobby market, often distributed like ink as compatible consumables by desktop ink jet printer manufacturers such as Hewlett Packard or Epson. Different types of transfers allow nonsublimation dyestuffs to be used as well as substrates of fiber types other than polyester, with transfer processes falling into four different categories (Kiron, 2012) ... 

The two typical SUVs (long and short) are grouped in the same category, showing that the consumers do not perceive these two cars as belonging to different categories of car body styles. 

Free sorting task can also be used to assess the respective importance of design parameters in an optimization process of product development. In this context, the designer can focus on parameters that define the different categories of the products inferred from the consumers perceptions. 

However, consumers seemed more likely to use associations rather than technical attributes. It might be helpful to guide them in this direction with different categories of attributes that would not be strictly limited to sensory perception but also included evocations and emotions. In the following section, we present a study conducted in a cross-cultural context in order to test this possibility. 

The next, more time-consuming step was to rate the remaining four alternatives on all sub-categories of the five main criteria. The result of the whole rating of all corrective measures in the different categories is depicted in Fig. (11.9). As can be seen, average ratings were calculated for the five criteria (A to E).
