If one wants to plan and control a larger project in a serious manner, project management software packages are essential and save a lot of time. These programs use entry data such as task descriptions, their duration, start or finish times, tasks dependencies and milestones to automatically sequence and schedule the project tasks. Occasionally the carefully derived conclusions we draw from our safety analysis can be unpalatable to our peers, employers or customers and reqnire a course of action which is costly or time consuming. From a personal perspective this can present a conflict when we are also faced with managing our careers, reputation and professional standing. It is human nature that sometimes it is easier to take the path of least resistance and derive conclusions which prove popular with stakeholders rather than challenge estabhshed wisdom. 

ABSTRACT This paper highlights some aspects of the many facets of electricity distribution system risk assessment - describing the different risk consequence categories which are relevant in the whole risk picture with regards to their characteristics, their type of impact and apphcable risk analysis methods. The paper illustrates that distribution system asset management constitutes of a variety of more or less conflicting objectives - and that there is no single risk assessment method which cover all the different aspects of distribution system risk. 

This paper proposes a method for conducting the analysis of risks posed by management and points out the research issues that need to be tackled. These include the composition of the method itself, the types of representation of the management issues to be addressed by it, the rules to be built into the method and the guidelines to accompany it. For example, what rules are necessary for the effective exploration of assumptions The ways in which the method will operate also need to be explored. For example, within the process in Figure 1 there are boxes, which enclose activities, and arrowed lines, which indicate the transmission of output. Do there need to be differences in the ways in which these two entities are analysed Ease and repeatability of use by many people requires procedure-based operation, but thorough risk analysis demands creativity and, therefore, discernment in use. Ways in which the rules can embrace these apparently conflicting requirements need to be examined.
