Conferences, attending

The migration of one atomic species in another, in the solid state, is the archetype of a materials-science parepisteme. From small beginnings, just over a century ago, the topic has become central to many aspeets of solid-state science, with a huge dedicated literature of its own and specialised conferences attended by several hundred participants. 

The arrival of these new stakeholders on the scene coincided with some profound shifts in industry corporate thinking, taking place to cope with environmentally driven demands. This aspect was debated at a 1996 Greenpeace Business conference attended by over a hundred industry and government delegates. Some of the transitions in convincing shareholders are shown in Table 2.3. 

Chemical development and especially process chemistry, which it includes, form a subdiscipline of organic chemistry. Little taught in graduate schools, they are learned instead through experience on the job, in short intramural courses sponsored by chemical development groups, and in conferences attended and organized by practitioners. They are the subject of two recent books (Lee and Robinson, 1995 Repic, 1998), a journal (Organic Process Research and Development ), and a chapter (Laird, 1990). Articles concerned with process research and development lie scattered in a variety of other chemical journals, particularly Chemistry and Industry (London) and the Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry. 

Participants from academic, industrial, and government venues gathered to discuss the latest research breakthroughs and results in biotechnology to improve the economics of producing fuels and chemicals. The total of 702 attendees represented an all-time conference high this is almost a 46% increase over the 2006 conference attendance in Nashville. Of this total, approximately 45% of attendees were from academia (about half of this, 14% of the total attendees, were students), 31% were from... 

My task was to identify the reasons for low conversions of telephonic inquiries into actual sales, and to devise interventions to increase the conversion rate. The challenge was that there is no apparent easily standardized customer behavior, and that customer demand covered a range of additional ancillary demands, such as safari tours or winery tours in addition to conference attendance. 

The American Society of Safety Engineers celebrated its 100th anniversary with a blow-out birthday bash in its home city of Chicago, June 12-15. Records were blown out 4,100 registrants marked the largest conference attendance ever close to 500 exhibitors spread across 75,000 square feet of floor space made for the largest expo ever. 

Another issue is to determine if an injiuy or disease is work-related, i.e. did it arise in the course of employment or as part of employment, e.g. camping out, working at home, in a hotel, at a conference, attendance at a vocational college, etc. 

To keep your policies and procedures up-to-date with the latest industry practices you should provide a means of identifying new developments. This can be done by scanning journals, attending seminars and conferences, and generally maintaining an awareness of developments in quality management and technologies relevant to your business. 

Many companies are quite wiiiing to share information on their PSM programs with other firms. CCPS and industry associations provide good places for networking to make the initial contacts that begin this. Attending process safety conferences is a good way to meet people who share your interest in PSM. 

Overall direction of the Institution is vested in its Council, but committees and panels of members carry out much of the Institution s detailed work. Branches and divisions of the Institution are run by their own committees, which arrange programs of visits, lectures and other appropriate activities, spread throughout the year. Non-members are very welcome to attend most Institution events. The Institution publishes its journal. The Plant Engineer, and other technical information, and organizes national conferences and exhibitions. 

At the University of St. Petersburg (now Leningrad), he distinguished himself in science and mathematics and earned the doctorate with a thesis on a subject that remains of current interest, The Union of Alcohol and Water." Subsequent studies in France and Germany permitted him to attend the 1858 Karlsruhe (Germany) conference at which Avogadro s Hypothesis was heatedly debated. Later, he visited the oil fields of Pennsylvania to see the first oil well. Upon his return to Russia, he developed a new commercial distillation process.

I have seldoa attended auch a good conference. In addition, Rose and 1 enjoyed the evening gatherings, both on the first and second day. 

Finally, our impressions of the 1987 Soviet Union included the pleasure and pleasant surprise of a fleeting visit to our conference by Andre Sakharov, the great freedom fighter and distinguished theoretical physicist. Sakharov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but to no avail, he was not allowed by his communist repressors to leave Moscow to attend the award ceremonies in Sweden. 

The meetings on energy were resumed with the November 1994 meeting which took place in Washington, DC. The chosen subject was Global Energy Demand in Transition The New Role of Electricity . The conference was attended by about 60 participants and covered the topics described in the following Precis ... 

This conference was described by some of the long-time participants as the best energy conference they had attended. It concluded with recommendations contained in the above white paper. The proceedings of the conference have also been published by Plenum Press for further dissemination of the ideas and trends in the field of energy among those who were not in attendance. 

During the conference many participants asked us to publish the papers presented in a volume of proceedings in order to enable those scientists who could not attend the symposium to have access to the information. As we are convinced that the results presented reflect the most recent aspects of organosilicon chemistry, we have applied ourselves diligently to the task of editing this volume, and would like to thank all authors for their effective and encouraging support. 

The aim of this paper is to trace the scientific impact the ideas of I.M. Lif-shitz had on polymer and biopolymer physics. We are not going to discuss the vast and, in our opinion, beneficial influence Iliya Mikhailovich had on the style, atmosphere, level, and productivity of research efforts of a great number of people. This multitude includes his own students as well as the studies of his students, his collaborators, people who consulted with him or simply attended his lectures and conference talks. We shall limit ourselves with the direct impact of his specific works on subsequent scientific literature. 

Between visits to friends around the city, I had plenty of time to ponder what General Clay s reception would be. My thoughts went back to July of 1946 when I had joined Pauley in Paris on his third mission. We had been directed to look over conditions in Germany, but President Truman had also instructed us to attend the Paris Conference. Pauley had divided his staff. Luther Gulick (one of Truman s advisors on reorganizing the executive branch), Pauley, and I checked in at the Prince de Galles Hotel in Paris. The rest of the staff, under Martin Bennett, went on to Berlin. 

After what seemed an endless series of questions, Duke succeeded in establishing that Hoerlein had held a special conference later on the same day with his own people who had attended the meeting, and that he had actually been sent at least one copy of the minutes.
