Compression equipment selection

Often the process may have conditions that control the flexibility of compression equipment selection. These might include limiting temperatures before polymer formation, chemical reaction, excess heat for lubrication materials, explosive conditions greater than a certain temperature, etc. [Pg.370]

Compressor Selection To select the most satisfactoiy compression equipment, engineers must consider a wide variety of types, each of which offers peculiar advantages for particular applications. Among the major factors to be considered are flow rate, head or pressure, temperature hmitations, method of seahng, method of lubrication, power consumption, serviceability, and cost. [Pg.923]

Usually the selection of the basic type of compression equipment for the operation can be determined prior to inquiring of the manufacturers. However, when in doubt or where multiple types may be considered, inquiries should be sent to all manufacturers offering the equipment. [Pg.369]

Tuff, a compressed volcanic material, is the primary constituent of Yucca Mountain, near Las Vegas, Nevada, the site selected by Congress in 1987 for assessment for spent fuel disposal. An underground laboratory, to consist of many kilometers of tunnels and test rooms, is to be cut into the mountain with special boring equipment to determine if the site is suitable for a repository. [Pg.230]

Commonly when a pharmaceutical industry purchases a new compression machine, a PQ is conducted. First, the company must select some of its well-known products and prepare them until the compression phase as usual. The product must be compressed by the new equipment using the same compression conditions, such as compression force and tablet output. The obtained tablets must meet all the specifications of that product. The parameters specified could be aspect, hardness, thickness, diameter, average mass and uniformity of mass, friability, and tablet output. If the tablets obtained comply with specifications, the compression machine is considered reliable to obtain a product with good quality and in a reproducible manner and the equipment is considered performance qualified. [Pg.829]

Polytropic efficiencies are obtained from measurements of power consumption of test equipment. They are essentially independent of the nature of the gas. As the data of Figure 7.27 indicate, however, they are somewhat dependent on the suction volumetric rate, particularly at low values, and on the compression ratio. Polytropic efficiencies of some large centrifugal compressors are listed in Table 7.6. These data are used in Example 7.9 in the selection of a machine for a specified duty. [Pg.159]

During compression, 1000 tablets were randomly selected for use by quality control. Inspection of the batch records revealed that all 30 batches were compressed on the same model press operating at approximately the same speed. All presses were fed by overhead delivery systems of the same design, thus tableting equipment will not be a source of variability from batch to batch. [Pg.83]

Materials selection process can be depicted in terms of Figure 1.40. Materials selection involves many factors that have to be optimized for a particular application. The foremost consideration is the cost of the material and its applicability in the environmental conditions so that integrity can be maintained during the lifetime of the equipment. When the material of construction is metallic in nature, the chemical composition and the mechanical properties of the metal are significant. Some of the important mechanical properties are hardness, creep, fatigue, stiffness, compression, shear, impact, tensile strength and wear. [Pg.63]

Wood pellets are manufactured from selected mixtures of different wood residues. Raw wood is chipped and sieved before laid in raw material storage along with - for instance - sawdust. From the storage the material is milled and dried, in an optional order depending on process design and equipment. With a moisture content of <15 % the milled wood is fed to pelletisers for compressing to pellets of 6 12 (25) mm in diameter. The product is cooled in a cascade cooler and is delivered in bags or bulk. The bulk density of the product is 650 - 700 kg/m. ... [Pg.868]

The equipment used to compress a gas through a process piping system is different from that used for liquids. At low pressure drops, a simple fan may be adequate. At higher pressure drops, multistage compressors are commonly used. The different types of compressors and guidelines for their selection are discussed in Chapter 10, Section 10.12. Equations for the power consumed in gas compression are given in Section 3.13. [Pg.262]
