Compressibility Slightly compressible fluid

As already explained the necessity to satisfy the BB stability condition restricts the types of available elements in the modelling of incompressible flow problems by the U-V P method. To eliminate this restriction the continuity equation representing the incompressible flow is replaced by an equation corresponding to slightly compressible fluids, given as... [Pg.74]

When fluids are in motion, the pressure losses may be determined through the principle of conservation of energy. For slightly compressible fluids this leads to... [Pg.170]

For compressible fluids at isothermal conditions, more accurate ccxrputations may be obtained by assuming proportionality between pressure and density, whereby eqn (3) is slightly modified ... [Pg.177]

Up to a density of about 1.0 g cm the vibrational intensity is found to be independent of the temperature and the density (or pressure). At the highest densities, B (6700-7300) slightly decreases. This behavior, which is also observed in several other near-infrared bands of CO2 (Buback et al., 1986a, 1986b), seems to indicate that repulsive interactions are becoming important in highly compressed fluid CO2. This assumption is supported by an inspection of the density dependence of the band maximum positions. In Fig. 6.2-12, the wavenumbers of maximum absorption in the P and the R branch, i>p(max) and i> (max), of the component around 4980 cm (see Fig. 6.2-8) are plotted versus the density. The arithmetic mean values of the P and R branch maxima, i> , which are shown as full circles in the lower density spectra, linearly decrease with the density. They can be... [Pg.528]

This relation between density and pressure is called the state equation of the fluid. Oil and water are usually called slightly compressible fluid. The state equation (10) is applicable to most of the liquid. [Pg.853]

The reservoir simulator developed for this study simulates two-dimensional areal flow of a single-phase, slightly compressible fluid in a closed square reservoir. It is based on the equations developed in previous studies (11,12). The reservoir rock is assumed to be deformable, heterogeneous and anisotropic. The momentum transport equation is... [Pg.58]

The ejector is widely used as a vacuum pump, where it is staged when required to achieve deeper vacuum levels. If the motive fluid pressure is sufficiently high, the ejector can compress gas to a slightly positive pressure. Ejectors are used both as subsonic and supersonic devices. The design must incorporate the appropriate nozzle and diffuser compatible with the gas velocity. The ejector is one of the ( to liquid carryover in the suction gas. [Pg.10]

Some terpolymers contain an additional cure site monomer, for example, bromotetrafluorobutene, to permit crosslinking with peroxides. Peroxide curing gives vulcanisates more resistance to amine stabilisers in motor oils, more resistance to methanol containing motor fluids. Resistance to acids, aqueous media and steam is also improved. Compression set and heat resistance are slightly inferior to bisphenol A cure systems. [Pg.113]

When spread from a benzene/hexane solution on to a slightly acidic water subphase, spread films of racemic and enantiomeric STy exhibit nearly the same IT/A isotherms (Fig. 22) and surface shear viscosities (Harvey et al., 1990). The shapes of these isotherms and the apparently small differences between the compression/expansion characteristics of these fluid homochiral and heterochiral monolayers is conserved throughout the... [Pg.89]

The supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) is a process in which a highly compressed gas (fluid) is brought into contact with a relatively non-volatile solid or liquid at temperatures at or slightly above the critical temperature of the solvent. Under such conditions, the condensed phase will begin to volatize, which is interpreted as the supercritical fluid phase (Vayisoglu et al., 1996). The SFE is one of the best methods to obtain hqnid fuels from coals. The SFE extraction is carried out in an autoclave at above the critical temperature and the pressure of the solvent. The yield of soluble material increases with increasing pressure (Paul and Wise, 1971). [Pg.202]

The actual vapor heat pump cycle deviates from the ideal cycle primarily because of inefficiency of the compressor, pressure drops associated with fluid flow and heat transfer to or from the surroundings. The vapor entering the compressor must be superheated slightly rather than a saturated vapor. The refrigerant entering the throttling valve is usually compressed liquid rather than a saturated liquid. [Pg.303]

This results in a system of three equations with three variables ux, uy and p. It is very common to eliminate the pressure from the set of equations by introducing a slight compressibility to the fluid. This approach is often referred to as the penalty formulation. The compressibility factor 7 is introduced in the continuity equation as... [Pg.482]

A slight increase in pressure leads to an increase in the density (Figure 2). In the zone surrounding the critical point, the compressibility is about 500 times greater than that of a liquid. Consequentially, contrary to liquid extraction, it is possible to vary the density of the extraction phase by acting upon the pressure and/or the temperature. As a result, SFE has a supplementary degree of freedom compared to liquid extraction and it is therefore possible to modulate the solvent power of the fluid, thus obtaining more selective extractions. [Pg.124]
