This chapter defines the methylxanthine composition of raw and processed cocoa, as well as various chocolate foods and beverages. Patterns of consumption for cocoa and chocolate products are discussed and dietary intakes of caffeine from chocolate products are reported. [Pg.171]

Average Values. A major issue is how to cope with the normal variation in the composition of raw materials. The directive defines an average value as the value which best represents the amount of the nutrient which a given food contains and reflects allowances for seasonal variability, patterns of consumption and other factors which may cause the actual value to vary . [Pg.48]

Radioisotopes are widely used in die measurement of process variables, including the level of liquids and solids in tanks, silos, and other vessels, the density and specific gravity of fluids and solids, the thickness of sheets and coatings, the moisture content of soils and other solids, the mass flow of materials in pipelines or on belts, and the determination of chemical composition of raw materials, in-process materials, and end-products. Representative examples of these applications are given in Table 6. [Pg.1411]

The composition of raw rubber varies according to its botanical and geographical origin and to the method of collection and preparation even in the same quality, marked divergences, dependent on various circumstances, may occur. [Pg.323]

The composition of raw material mixtures used in the production of wall tiles (stoneware) and floor tiles (terracotta) in Opoczno is given in Table 2. Data characterising the feed in the mill at Paradyz are given in Table 3. [Pg.264]

The complexity of biological processes generally requires many stages to produce a final, purified product from a particular composition of raw materials. Although a typical bioprocess consists of two main parts, upstream fermentation and downstream product recovery, it is not unusual to have between 10 and 20 steps in the overall process. This reflects the complex nature of a typical fermentation broth, which will consist of an aqueous mixture of cells, intracellular or extracellular products, unreacted substrates, and by-products of the fermentation process. From this mixture, the desired... [Pg.18]

The calcosilicate zeolite-like crystal material CAS-1 was hydrothermally synthesized and the thermal stability of the samples were investigated. The effects of composition of raw materials, reaction temperature and alkali metals on the synthesis of CAS-I were addressed. Cation exchange reactions and their influences on the thermal stability of CAS-I framework structure were also studied. The samples were characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, DT-TGA, AAS and chemical analysis. The results showed that CAS-1 could be obtained from a wide range of composition of raw materials and reaction conditions. The cations have great influence on the thermal stability of the CAS-I framework structure. [Pg.233]

To evaluate the basic characteristics of de-SOx over ACF, comparison was made between 4 kinds of commercialized ACFs under the untreated condition. Table 1 shows the comparison of the properties of ACFs. Because the structures such as an external surface area, specific surface area, and pore size are unified in the manufacturing process, there is slight difference in structure of raw materials. But the compositions of raw materials significantly vary with types phenol-type (Kuraray Chemicals co.,ltd.) or... [Pg.474]

The morphological stmcture of raw silk fibre is given in Fig. 1-10. The actual fibre protein is called fibrion and the protein sericin is the gummy substance that holds the filament together. The average composition of raw silk is 70-75% fihrion (CijHj NjOg), 20-25% sericin, 2-3% waxy substances extractable by ether and alcohol and 1 to 1.7% mineral matter. Sericin is amorphous and dissolves in hot soap solution. Fibrion is the form of a filament thread and dissolves in 5% sodium hydroxide solution at boil. [Pg.14]

Raw cotton contains, in addition to cellulose, the usual constituents of a vegetable cell. These are oil and wax, pectoses and pectins, proteins and simpler related nitrogen compounds, organic acids, mineral matter, and natural colouring matter. Cotton yarns or piece goods may contain, in addition, adventitious dirt, size, and machine oil. The approximate composition of raw cotton is as follows ... [Pg.42]
