Composite nonwovens filtration composites

More recently, a composite aerosol filter media has been prepared by depositing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibres with mean diameters of about lOOnm on nonwoven fabric substrates by using needleless electrospinning technique. The filtration performance of the composite filter was evaluated by measuring the filtration of sodium chloride nanoparticles (75 20nm). The results showed that the filtration efficiency of the composite filter media for nanoparticles was increased with the increase in thickness of the nanofibre mats, which was controlled by the deposition time of the electrospinning process. 

The silica-based fibres are typified by Quartzel (Saint-Gobain, France), which while having slightly inferior fire and heat performance to alumina-based fibres (see Table 8.5), are available as continuous filament yams, rovings, and chopped strands (each comprising 9 or 14 pm diameter filaments) and sewing threads, filament-based nonwovens, and wetlaid papers. Continuous filament yams may be knitted and woven to yield fabrics with applications in furnace insulation, combustion chamber insulation in aircraft, ablative composites for military and other markets, and hot corrosive gas and liquid filtration.

Many geomembranes have composite structures to enable them to carry out a range of demanding durables applications. Issues such as filtration and subsoil stabilisation are often achieved by mixing material types within composites. A variety of woven and nonwoven composites are used in this sector. 

With consideration of the requirements of avoidance of fibre shedding in the filtration process, nonwoven fabrics made from continuous fibres such as melt blown, spun-bond, and hydroentangled nonwovens and electrospun/centrifugal spinning nanofibre nonwovens, as well as their composite combinations comprising both microfibres and nanofibres, are widely used in microfiltration as a water filtration media. Abrasive particles contained in a hydraulic oil system, if unfiltered, enter the system, they would damage sensitive components like pumps, valves, and motors. The nonwoven hydraulic filter is designed to remove these parficles from the oU flow to prevent hydraulic system failure from any premature component wear. Nonwoven filters either contain novel materials, such as magnetic polymer fibres, or have special designed structures (eg, multilayer composite filter medium for serial filtration ) that are employed to filter the solid abrasive particulates, soft particles, corrosive chemical particles, and some microorganisms.

The current material system for protective clothes usually adopts a multilayer composite structure.
