Combined Systems

The GAMMASCAN 1500 HR is a combined system for two-dimensional (2D-CT) and three-dimensional (3D-CT) computed tomography, as well as digital radiography (DR). The system is equipped with two separate detector systems for the fan-beam and cone-beam CT. The sire of the objects is limited to a height of four meters, maximum diameters of 1.5 meters and a weight of up to 15 tons. The turntable which carries the test samples can be moved along and across the beam direction ( X- and Y- direction). The radiation source and the detector systems can be moved in Z- direction, both, simultaneously and independently. [Pg.584]

The superoxides compare well with a combination of Hquid oxygen or gaseous oxygen systems and a CO2 scmbber, eg, LiOH. Heat release is somewhat less than the combination system, and the volume of superoxides which is required is roughly equivalent to that of lithium hydroxide. [Pg.488]

Aerobic, Anaerobic, and Combined Systems. The vast majority of in situ bioremediations ate conducted under aerobic conditions because most organics can be degraded aerobically and more rapidly than under anaerobic conditions. Some synthetic chemicals are highly resistant to aerobic biodegradation, such as highly oxidized, chlorinated hydrocarbons and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Examples of such compounds are tetrachloroethylene, TCE, benzo(a)pyrene [50-32-8] PCBs, and pesticides. [Pg.170]

When the point values are average probabilities, the overall result from combining system.s as combinations of sequences and redundancies is found by simply combining the mean probabiliiies according to the arithmetic operations. [Pg.57]

Combined systems extraction with additional supply air) It is advantageous to increase the range of the capture system by an additional supply system. The supply air blows the contaminated air toward the capture openings (see Section 10.4.6). [Pg.883]

Similar to supply inlets, no measurements exist for evaluating the inlets specific influence on contaminant concentration. The available measurements for the combinations are the same as for exhaust hoods, i.e., capture efficiencies and similar measures. Sometimes the performance of a combined system can be approximated from the performance of the incoming supply inlet and exhaust hood. [Pg.935]

For a combined system it is always important to consider how the person working with a process and the contaminant source are placed in relation to the inlet and outlet. Exactly what their relative positions should be to get the highest efficiency depends on the specific system. [Pg.936]

Most of the combined systems could be designed using information provided in Sections 10.2 and 10.3 and taking into account the mutual influence of the supply and the exhaust system. Many of these local ventilation systems for small enclosures are very similar to general ventilation systems for rooms and could be designed using the methods described in Chapter 8. [Pg.997]

Bio-Gel P-6 and a combined system of P-6/S-200 were utilized for investigations of inulin-type /3(2- l)-linked nb fructans. With a flow rate of 0.33 mP min, each separation of a sample volume of 1 ml of a 20- to 30-mg/ml concentrated solution typically lasted 20 hr, i.e., one run per day. Both systems (P-6 and P-6/S-200) maintained stability for approximately 1 year, equivalent to approximately 100 runs. [Pg.485]

For samples with significant percentages of high dp components (up to 60,000 [g/M]), a supplementary separation system to P-6 is needed. Tests with Sephadex gels, such as G-25 or G-50, or Bio-Gels P-10 and P-100 were negative, but a combined system of P-6 and S-200 worked perfecdy. [Pg.487]

The sensitivity of the equilibrium constant to temperature, therefore, depends upon the enthalpy change AH . This is usually not a serious limitation, because most reaction enthalpies are sufficiently large and because we commonly require that the perturbation be a small one so that the linearization condition is valid. If AH is so small that the T-jump is ineffective, it may be possible to make use of an auxiliary reaction in the following way Suppose the reaction under study is an acid-base reaction with a small AH . We can add a buffer system having a large AH and apply the T-jump to the combined system. The T-jump will alter the Ka of the buffer reaction, resulting in a pH jump. The pH jump then acts as the forcing function on the reaction of interest. [Pg.143]

Fluid power includes hydraulic, hydro-pneumatic and pneumatic systems. Why are hydraulics used in some applications, pneumatics in others or combination systems, in still others Both the user and the manufacturer must consider many factors when determining which type of system should be used in a specific application. [Pg.583]

The use of a chemical agent as an anti-foam is affected by an on-off algorithm with variable dosing time and time delay. If the presence of foam is detected, then the controller first activates a delay timer. This type of foam controller works with some delay and variable dosing time. If at the end of the delay period the foam is still present, then the dosing pump is activated and chemical agent is added to the bioreactor. If the foam is still detected at the end of this period, the combined system of delay and dosing is reactivated. With this method of controller, addition of any unnecessary anti-foam is prevented. [Pg.79]

The restriction of applying equation (5.47) to an isolated system seems to seriously limit the usefulness of this equation since we seldom work with isolated systems. But this is not so the pre-eminent example of an isolated system is the universe, since neither mass nor energy can flow in or out of the universe. Thus, the isolated system shown in Figure 5,6 can be made the universe, with A the system of interest, and B the surroundings. When we designate the combined system as the universe, we can drop the subscript A in... [Pg.228]

In situations where Tobs is comparable in magnitude to tq, a more complex relation prevails between Q, S, and M. Atmospheric CO2 falls in this last category although its turnover time (3 years, cf. Fig. 4-3) is much shorter than Tobs (about 300 years). This is because the atmospheric CO2 reservoir is closely coupled to the carbon reservoir in the biota and in the surface layer of the oceans (Section 4.3). The effective turnover time of the combined system is actually several hundred years (Rodhe and Bjdrk-strom, 1979). [Pg.67]

The FK model accounts for the effects that have been ignored in the Tomlinson model, resulting from the interactions of neighboring atoms. For a more realistic friction model of solid bodies in relative sliding, the particles in the harmonic chain have to be connected to a substrate. This motivates the idea of combining the two models into a new system, as schematically shown in Fig. 24, which is known as the Frenkel-Kontorova-Tomlinson model. Static and dynamic behavior of the combined system can be studied through a similar approach presented in this section. [Pg.177]
