Combined methodology

In the search for labeled compounds at higher specific activity/isotope incorporation, we were aware of the fact that the most widely used methods (see Table 18.1) are invariably performed separately. Consequently we embarked on a study to see whether, by choosing an appropriate compound, we could not combine e.g. hydrogenation and dehalogenation, or methylation and dehalogenation, or isotope [Pg.839]

The screening of the catalytic activity in these reactions is made possible by the readily available library of various heterogeneous and homogeneous transition metal catalysts. The use of microwaves ensures that two reactions, each requiring different times to reach equilibrium under thermal conditions, can now be completed within a very short interval. [Pg.840]

According to Blackwell [103] the application of microwave irradiation to expedite solid-phase reactions could be the tool that allows combinatorial chemistry to deliver on its promise - providing rapid access to large collections of diverse small molecules. Several different approaches to microwave-assisted solid-phase reactions and library synthesis are now available. These include the use of solid-supported reagents, multi-component coupling reactions, solvent-free parallel library synthesis, and spatially addressable library synthesis on planar solid support. [Pg.840]

Solid-phase reactions are heterogeneous and often take up to 10 times as long as their homogeneous counterparts to come to equilibrium. Reagent diffusion into [Pg.840]

The synthesis of MNCGs can be obtained by sol-gel, sputtering, chemical vapor-deposition techniques. Ion implantation of metal or semiconductor ions into glass has been explored since the last decade as a useful technique to produce nanocomposite materials in which nanometer sized metal or semiconductor particles are embedded in dielectric matrices [1,2,4,23-29]. Furthermore, ion implantation has been used as the first step of combined methodologies that involve other treatments such as thermal annealing in controlled atmosphere, laser, or ion irradiation [30-32]. [Pg.269]

Phenylpyrimidine. On treatment of 4-phenylpyrimidine with potassium amide in liquid ammonia at 33°C for 70 hr in the presence of potassium nitrate, followed by quenching the reaction mixture by addition of ammonium chloride and workup, two products were isolated 2-amino-4-phenylpyrimidine (60%) and 6-amino-4-phenylpyrimidine (15%) (79JOC4677). When the reaction was carried out with labeled potassium amide in liquid ammonia and using the combined methodologies of chemical conversions and mass spectrometry as discussed previously (see Section II,C,l,a) it was found that in 6-amino-4-phenylpyrimidine (62/63), hardly any label was incorporated in the ring ( 5%), but that about... [Pg.47]

Like a simpler timeline, a sequence diagram does not identify root causes, and therefore it should be used as part of a combined methodology with other tools. In this respect, a sequence diagram may be used in place of the timeline within the two main incident investigation methodologies presented in this chapter. [Pg.190]

Recently, Hawthorne et al. coupled the ASE technique to solid-phase extraction using sorption discs that were placed in the extraction chamber together with the sample in order to simultaneously concentrate and extract polar compounds such as acid herbicides and their esters from soils, using strong anion-exchange (SAX) discs [99]. They also used this combined methodology to develop a convenient method of shipping extracts from field sites to the analytical laboratory [100]. In the former application, the esters of the... [Pg.250]

Tertiary phosphines, in the absence of special effects 2 ), have relatively high barriers 8) ca. 30-35 kcal/mol) to pyramidal inversion, and may therefore be prepared in otically stable form. Methods for synthesis of optically active phosphines include cathodic reduction or base-catalyzed hydrolysis 3° 31) of optically active phosphonium salts, reduction of optically active phosphine oxides with silane hydrides 32), and kinetic 3 0 or direct 33) resolution. The ready availability of optically pure phosphine oxides of known absolute configuration by the Grignard method (see Sect. 2.1) led to a study 3 ) of a convenient, general, and stereospecific method for their reduction, thus providing a combined methodology for preparation of phosphines of known chirality and of high enantiomeric purity. [Pg.72]

The results of this study indicate that cell transfection, with subsequent amperometric detection of exocytosis, allows valid and efficient analysis of the roles of specific proteins on the quantitative and kinetic release aspects of individual exocytotic events. Studies utilizing this combined methodology, therefore, hold the potential to provide a powerful tool for the future analysis of other components of the exocytotic machinery. [Pg.313]
