Column headings, printing

Gridlines and boxes Avoid gridlines, boxes, and vertical lines. (Such lines may be visible on your computer but should not be visible in the printed document.) Use only horizontal lines two or three are most common. In the two-line format, horizontal lines are placed above the table (and table title) and below the table In the three-line format, horizontal lines are placed below the table title, below the column headings, and below the table. 

If a data name is preceded by loop, then a series of values can be associated with that name, e.g., symmetry equiv pos as xyz. A series of data values can also be grouped together under different data names using the loop construct, as in the example below, which shows a loop containing the atom labels and x,y,z-coord inates for four atoms. Here, the data names can be regarded as the column headings in a conventional printed table.

Multiply each column total by 5 and print the number in the appropriate SI, S2, S3, or S4 box below (matching the column heading). 

On this basis he constructed his table showing the relative affinities of many substances as he had determined them. His table was printed in chemical symbols—or shorthand. The principle of its arrangement may be illustrated by the following translation into the English language of the first four of the sixteen columns. The substances at the head of the columns are related to those below in the order of diminishing affinities. 

With consistency in mind, raise the enlarger head to a comfortable working height. This should be about the height to make an 11 X 14 inch print. If the enlarger column has a scale on it make a note of this height and use it for all future proof sheets. If it does not have a scale, then mark the column with a Sharpie or tape. 

Comments control cards. Comments may also be punched on any of the control cards except END in columns 13—72. These comments will be printed once, along with the control card word, at the time the card is read. In the example of Figure 3, the date was put on the ROWS control card and the headings "C VALUE, A(I,J) COEFFICIENTS AND ROWS" were put on the MATRIX control card as this type of comment.
