Color gloss

Samples indicating the acceptable range of color, gloss, metallic brilliance, grain and texture, and distinctness of image may be needed and, if not provided by your customer, those that you provide will need customer approval. 

The selection of basis material, conversion coating, and paint formulation is an art based upon experience. The variables that are typically involved in the selection are appearance, color, gloss, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, process line capability, availability of raw materials, customer preference, and cost. Some basis materials inherently work better with certain conversion coatings, and some conversion coatings work better with certain paint formulations. On the whole, however, the choice of which combination to use on a basis material is limited only by plant and customer preferences.1-4...

Transparency, gloss, color, refractive index, and reflectance are the properties normally associated with aesthetics of plastic materials. In some areas, changes in optical properties, increases in haze after abrasion testing (285), color differences after weathering, and birefringence analysis of residual stress within a transparent part (286) are all used to measure the effects of applied stresses. Measurements of color, gloss, refractive index, and haze apply to many products beyond plastics and use similar techniques. For these applications cycle times have been reduced by between 18 and 36% with the use PET/PC blends. The blends having a tensile strength of 56 MPa, a tensile modulus of 2.3 GPa, and a heat distortion temperature of 113°C at 1.8 MPa offer good colorability, gloss and... 

Optical properties are of most relevance for plastics, although color and gloss can be important for any of the material classes for products where aesthetic considerations are of intere.st. In fact for most plastics products it is the aesthetic properties, such as surface texture, color, gloss, and reflectance, that are important. Light transmission characteristics and refractive index measurements are needed for only a relatively few products such as lenses and windows where the transparency or transluccncy of the material is a paramount consideration. This is unfortunate, as light transmission and refractive index are a good deal easier to define and and to correlate with visual experience than the other properties mentioned. Pigments, dyes, and extenders are incorporated in binders to obtain decorative effects (e.g., color, gloss, dulling) or functional effects (e.g., corrosion protection) on a surface coating. For optimization of these effects the colorants must be mixed in a suitable manner and in appropriate amounts with the relevant binder. The distribution of the primary pigment particles in the polymer matrix should be as uniform as possible.

Pigments are fine solid particles dispersed in the binder. Pigments provide color, gloss, and opacity required of the paint film. Some pigments also act as protective agents against corrosion by atmospheric agents. 

Two coat protection is provided with excellent high gloss finish and long-term color gloss retention. Normally applied to carbon steel and concrete. Limitations-. 

Figure 4a-c evidences the influence of different natural fillers on the transparency properties of starch-based composite films. The transparency can be decreased with increase in the natural filler content of the films, as one can observe from Fig. 4. Light interacts with the film surface, being reflected, absorbed, or transmitted. Thus, color, gloss, and transparency properties are exhibited by the films. Usually, light diffusion occurs mainly at the interface of the different film polymer components, impairing its further transmission.

Other physical and optical properties related to functionality and stability of films that affect consumer perception and acceptabihty of coated foods are solubility, a moisture content, color, gloss, and so on.

Color, gloss, light transmittance, haze, and absence of defects, such as sink marks, flow and weld lines are all important appearance factors. 

All these paints must be made in the specified color, gloss, etc. They must also have the necessary ease of application and other essential properties.
