Cobalt sulfate 18-hydrate

A solution of 56g of cobalt sulfate 7-hydrate in 300ml of water is heated to boiling and 65gof lead thiocyanate is stirred in. When the lead sulfate is well settled, the mixture is cooled and filtered. The residue is washed with two 25ml portions of cold water the washings are added to the main filtrate which is then evaporated to dryness on the steam bath. The product is finally dehydrated at 105°-120°C for 2-3 hours. [Pg.44]

This compound is prepared from 40g of cobalt carbonate and 20ml of concentrated sulfuric acid in 130ml of water or from 94g of cobalt sulfate 7-hydrate in 150ml of water. The procedure is the same as for the nitrate. [Pg.233]

Cobalt Sulfates. Both cobaltous and cobaltic sulfates are known, of which the cobaltous sulfate, CoS04, or its hydrates are used in industry, such as in baths for Co plating, ceramics, pigments, glazes and in catalysts. [Pg.170]

It was observed that the most efficient oxidant was KMnO absorbed on a fourfold molar amount of CUSO4.5H2O (100% yield), but attempts were made to oxidize 2-heptanol, under solvent-free conditions, by KMnO alone (i.e., in the absence of the support of an inorganic salt hydrate) were absolutely unsuccessful. Various inorganic salts were tried and yielded varied amounts of the product. The better supports include nickel sulfate (90%), zinc sulfate (74%), and cobalt sulfate (41%) while other supports were not that interesting like magnesium sulfate (12%), calcium sulfate (11%) and barium chloride (3%). Zeolite HZSM-5 was used as a catalyst for the oxidation of alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compound with chromium trioxide under solvent-free conditions and microwave irradiation (Heravi et al., 1999). [Pg.41]

Subsequent reaction of porphyrazines 170 and 171 with Cu(OAc)2 resulted in the selective metalation within the macrocyclic cavity to provide the corresponding copper complexes 166 (62%) and 172 (47%). Treatment of pz 170 with manganese acetate and iron sulfate in dimethyl sulfate gave the dmso adducts 173 (70%) and 174 (85%), respectively (168). Axial ligation was also observed when other metals were incorporated such as cobalt acetate, nickel acetate, and zinc acetate to give the metal complexes 175 (83%), 176 (70%), and 177 (90%) as the hydrates. The axial ligand of... [Pg.563]

Crystallization yields the commercial product, pink heptahydrate. Further oxidation of this salt in dilute H2SO4 with ozone or fluorine produces hydrated cobalt(III) sulfate, 002(804)3 I8H2O. This blue octadecahydrate, 002(804)3 I8H2O also is obtained by electrolytic oxidation of cobalt(II) chloride or any cobalt(II) salt solution in 8M sulfuric acid. [Pg.250]

Nickel sulfate forms double salts with ammonium or alkali metal sulfates. For example, blue-green hydrated ammonium nickel sulfate, (NH4)2S04 NiS04 6H20, crystallizes from a mixed solution of nickel sulfate and ammonium sulfate. Such double sulfates are isomorphous to corresponding alkali metal or ammonium double sulfates of iron, cobalt, magnesium, zinc, and other bivalent metals. [Pg.623]

To a solution of 70.0g of cobalt (II) sulfate 7-hydrate in 200 ml of water warmed to 50°C are added 0 .Og of barium thiosulfate 1-hydrate. The mixture is stirred at 50°C until the barium sulfate settles out completely and it is then... [Pg.45]

A slurry of 196g of cobalt (II) ammonium sulfate 6-hydrate in 100ml of water is added slowly with stirring to an ice-cold mixture of 250ml of concentrated aqueous ammonia and 4g of fresh activated charcoal. [Pg.181]

Ten grams (0.0398 mol) of crude cfs-chloroaquotetram-minecobalt(III) chloride is added to a mixture of 300 ml. of water and 1 ml. of sulfuric acid, and the mixture is mechanically stirred until no more solid dissolves (around 15 to 20 minutes). The residual purple contaminants are removed by filtration through a small Buchner funnel, and 20 g. (0.151 mol) of ammonium sulfate is dissolved in the filtrate. Minute deep purple crystals start to form immediately. The mixture is then cooled with stirring in an ice bath until crystallization is complete (around 1 hour). The crystals are collected on a small Buchner funnel, washed twice with 10 ml. of ice water and once with 10 ml. of ethanol, and then air-dried. The yield is 9.9 g. (65.2 % based on cobalt(II) chloride 6-hydrate). [Pg.178]
