Hydrated phosphates

P correlation of two inorganic hydrated phosphates, (a) bnishite and (b) a bone, are shown [48]. In both cases two phosphorus sites that completely overlap in the 1D MAS spectrum are clearly visible in the 2D spectrum. 

An aqueous solution of mono ammonium phosphate [10361-65-6] reacts with MgO to form ammonium magnesium phosphate hexahydrate [15490-91-2], NH MgPO 6H20. Several other species of hydrated phosphates are created during this reaction which takes place quickly and produces compounds that have desirable properties as cementing agents. The hexahydrate is the most prevalent. Properties are given in Table 22.

Phosphates. Some hydrated phosphates and phosphatocomplexes are included in Table 49, p. 1180. Hydrated protactinium(V) phosphate, Pa0(H2P04)3-2H20, dehydrates at 250 °C and decomposes to Pa0(P03)3 at 700 °C, then to (Pa0)4(P207)3 at 1000 °C. The structures of these compounds are not known.

Repeated measurements with 1 and eight different amino acids are shown in Figure 10.10. Frequency increase by L-glutamic and L-aspartic acid can be explained by pushing away hydrated phosphate ions from the surface. Altogether, this effect can reduce the adsorbed mass. 

Phosphates - although negligible constituents of most soils - are known to influence trace metal behavior. Hydrated phosphates can easily fix most of trace elements, and in particular Zn and Pb.
