Clusters, metal synthesis

Rearrangements of clusters, i.e. changes of cluster shape and increase and decrease of the number of cluster metal atoms, have already been mentioned with pyrolysis reactions and heterometallic cluster synthesis in chapter 2.4. Furthermore, cluster rearrangements can occur under conditions which are similar to those used to form simple clusters, e.g. simple redox reactions interconvert four to fifteen atom rhodium clusters (12,14, 280). Hard-base-induced disproportionation reactions lead to many atom clusters of rhenium (17), ruthenium and osmium (233), iron (108), rhodium (22, 88, 277), and iridium (28). And the interaction of metal carbonyl anions and clusters produces bigger clusters of iron (102, 367), ruthenium, and osmium (249). [Pg.17]

Parshakov A. S. with coauthors [25] have offered a new method of synthesis organo-inorganic composites nanoclusters transitive metals in an organic matrix by reactions of compounds of transitive metals of the maximum degrees of oxidation with monomers that at the first stage represent itself as a reducer. Formed thus clusters metals of the lowest degrees of oxidation are used for catalysis of polymerization a monomer with formation of an organic matrix. [Pg.88]

While the largest success of the unconventional aromaticity is certainly in the realm of bare metal clusters, the synthesis and characterization of the compounds containing [Pd4(p4-C9 H 9) (P4 -Cg H g) ] complex clearly demonstrated the importance of the delocalized 5-bonding and 5-aromaticity in inorganic, organometaUic, and coordination chemistry. [Pg.440]

These make up the elementary bricks of the materials of the future. They can be composed of an assembly of atoms such as a cluster, metallic nanoparticles or the elementary stage of a mineral combination. It can often be a question of a molecule specifically synthesized with the objective of obtaining a particular property, when may be optical, magnetic, electric, chemical (catalysis, separation), mechanical etc. In all cases the property must be precise, able to be measured, and controllable the synthesis of the nanoobject must be focused on the property with which it is wished to enhance it. [Pg.390]
