Silver Intensification Silver intensification has a noticeable effect on low values, which is where thin, underexposed negatives usually need help. It does, however, have the unfortunate habit of staining everything black. Wear gloves and try not to get it on your hands or clothes, but if you accidentally stain yourself, try using the Developer Stain Remover for Hands found in Formulas. One more problem associated with pyro/cat developers is their tendency to stain everything fingers, clothing, and work surfaces. If you experience a problem with this try using one of the stain removing formulas in the Formulas Miscellaneous section of the Cookbook. 

In order to prove enzyme engineering feasibility, it was important to develop a model system. One of the prime considerations for any model would be the commercial potential of the model. The alkaline proteases (subtilisins) are clearly the major single class of enzymes in commercial use today, representing 25% of the total enzyme market of 600 million. The primary use of subtilisins is as additives in laundry detergents to aid in the removal of proteinaceous stains from cloth. 

Understanding natural redox reactions such as the one that occurs in sulfur volcanoes has allowed chemists to develop many processes that make use of oxidation and reduction reactions. Without them, photographs or steel wouldn t exist, and stains would be much harder to remove from clothing.
