Closed-package test

Closed system tests, using an unvented test cell (see Figure A2.5) or Dewar flask, can be used for vapour pressure systems. The runaway is initiated in the way that best simulates the worst case relief scenario at plant-scale. The closed system pressure and temperature are measured as a function of time. Most commercial calorimeters include a data analysis package which will present the data in terms of rate of temperature rise, dT/dt, versus reciprocal temperature (-1 / ), and pressure versus reciprocal temperature (see Figure A2.10). However, it is important to correct the temperature data for the effects of thermal inertia. See 2.7.2.

(MCA) has pubUshed the Chemical Safety Data Sheet SD 63, which describes in detail procedures for safe handling of use of toluene (46). The Interstate Commerce Commission classifies toluene as a flammable Hquid. Accordingly, it must be packaged in authorized containers, and shipping must comply with ICC regulations. Properties related to safe handling are autoignition temperature, 536°C explosive limits, 1.27—7.0 vol % in air and flash point 4.4°C, closed cup.

Adhesion depends on a number of factors. Good adhesion is defined by most customers as substrate failure. The major adhesive manufacturers possess equipment that allows them to make bonds with customer substrates under conditions that closely simulate actual packaging lines. These bonds are peeled either automatically or by hand to gauge adhesion. The most important factors influencing adhesion are the wet-out of the substrate, partieularly by the polymer component of the adhesive system, and the specific adhesion with the substrate. Choice of resin is critical for both. Rosin, rosin esters and terpene phenolics are eommonly added for these purposes in EVA and EnBA-based systems. Adhesion at low temperatures is also influenced by the overall toughness of the system at the test temperature.

A large study demonstrated efficacy of nefazodone for social phobia in adults (Van Amerigen et ah, 1999), but no controlled pediatric study of nefazodone treatment for anxiety disorders or any psychiatric disorder has been published. The package insert for nefazopone (2002) now includes a black-box warning about potential hepatotoxicity, so liver function tests need to be closely monitored. 

The proficiency test provider and reference laboratory may be the same organizational entity. If not, they must closely coordinate and document their quality assurance procedures and division of responsibilities. For a test round to be successful, each laboratory under test must receive a sample which is the same as every other sample from the lot, within the limits specified for the test. This means that careful attention must be given to material packaging, stability, and handling during distribution.
