Cleaning painting

Magnetic filters have been used to clean paint sHps and Hquids. Filters that are open to the atmosphere or closed, ie, pressure type, are available where the filter inlets are matched to standard pipe connections from 10 to 50 mm, for low capacity appHcations. 

The Institute for Research and Technical Assistance (IRTA) identifies, develops, tests and demonstrates safer alternatives in cleaning applications, dry cleaning, paint stripping, coatings, adhesives and lubricants. 

One of the major uses of activated carbon is in the recovery of solvents from industrial process effluents. Dry cleaning, paints, adhesives, polymer manufacturing, and printing are some examples. Since, as a result of the highly volatile character of many solvents, they cannot be emitted directly into the atmosphere. Typical solvents recovered by active carbon are acetone, benzene, ethanol, ethyl ether, pentane, methylene chloride, tetrahydrofuran, toluene, xylene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and other aromatic compounds [78], Besides, automotive emissions make a large contribution to urban and global air pollution. Some VOCs and other air contaminants are emitted by automobiles through the exhaust system and also by the fuel system, and activated carbons are used to control these emissions [77,78],...

When all the CaO has been added, the stirring is continued at a more leisurely pace for another three hours. This long stretch of stirring is bound to tire even the most dedicated explosive manufacturer so an alternative which can be used where electricity is available is to suspend an electric drill or similar motor over the pail, and use a clean paint stirrer attachment to stir the solution. The fumes are not especially flammable, so fires are not the hazard they often are when dealing with more flammable chemicals. Even so, rigging an extra long stem for the stirrer, so the motor is elevated above the pail rim, is a wise precaution. 

For simplicity, solvent extracting soybeans, or for that matter any oilseed, has been likened to cleaning paint from a brush. To get the brush clean, the solvent must have good contact and penetration into the brush s bristles, sufficient heat to quickly do the cleaning, and enough clean solvent and time to remove all the paint. 

Contamination oocurs in petri dishes after pouring media but before inoculation. High contaminant spore load in lab. Clean, paint lab. Install laminar flow hood. 

Sieves. To clean, paint must be screened. The simplest method containing undesirably coarse particles is to sieve it through metal (steel) or plastic fabrics of specific mesh size. Polyamide screen bags are employed to facilitate handling. Metal fabric is fastened or soldered onto cylindrical metal frames.

This reaction is used for cleaning paintings, where lead pigments have discoloured (see Chapter 8).
