Cleaning abrasion

Because most corneal abrasions involve loss of only the superficial epithelial cells, the lesions generally heal in 24 to 72 hours without scar formation. As the cornea is monitored during follow-up care, it is important to determine that the signs and symptoms are consistent with the healing of a clean abrasion and that bacterial or fungal keratitis does not develop, particularly in abrasions caused by vegetative matter. Once the acute care aspects associated with the abrasion are resolved, it is helpful to discuss with the patient the appropriateness of protective eyewear, particularly if the patient is monocular. Protective eyewear may be needed in occupational, domestic, or recreational settings. [Pg.498]

Melamine foam, a special form of melamine, is used as an insulating and soundproofing material and as a cleaning abrasive. [Pg.245]

High-pressure water jetting with abrasive injection Pressurized water (up to 20,000 psi) is directed against the surface to be cleaned. Abrasive is metered into the water stream to facilitate the removal of rust and mill scale and to improve the efficiency of paint removal. Disposable abrasives are used. [Pg.73]

Treating of plastic surfaces usually consists of one or a combination of the following processes solvent cleaning, abrasive treatment and etching, flame, hot air, electric discharge, or plasma treatments. The purpose of the treatment is to either remove or strengthen the weak boundary layer or to increase the critical surface tension. [Pg.430]

This specification covers the requirements for cleanliness of recycled ferrous metallic blast cleaning abrasives used for the removal of coatings, paints, scales, rust, and other foreign matter from steel or other surfaces. Requirements are given for lab and field testing of recycled ferrous metalhc abrasives work mix. Recycled ferrous metallic abrasives are intended for use in field or shop abrasive blast cleaning of steel or other surfaces. [Pg.814]

Calcium carbonate (CaC03) (cleaning) Used as a polishing/cleaning abrasive. Insoluble in water soluble in acids. Also called Chalk. [Pg.574]
