Clean-area fabricating

The garments used by the workers should be made of synthetic fabrics that minimize contamination risks. Operators should be trained for their work and also for the maintenance of clean conditions and hygiene. Cleaning is a key factor in the maintenance of good conditions and reduces or eliminates potential contaminants that can affect the product. Contaminants can have various sources live particles, inert particles (dusts, glass, file dust, lubricants, etc.) or cross-contamination when different processes or products share the same clean area. To avoid problems, the cleaning procedures should be written and approved, validated, and executed by trained operators. [Pg.354]

The size of a baghouse is primarily determined by the area of filter cloth required to filter the gases. The choice of a filtration velocity (or its equivalent, the air-to-cloth ratio (ACR or A/C) in actual cubic feet per minute of gas filtered per square foot of filter area) must take certain factors into consideration. Although the higher velocities are usually associated with the greater pressure drops, they also reduce the filter area required. Practical experience has led to the use of a series of ACRs for various materials collected and types of equipment. Ratios in current use range from <1 1 to >15 1. The area of complex condensed matter depends crucially on the availability of appropriate tools for both fabrication and characterization. These tools are of intermediate size they are neither a test tube nor a synchrotron.
