What Haber never understood was women. One day we went walking and the conversation came around to women. He said, Women are like lovely butterflies to me. I admire their colors and glitter, but I get no further.  

The mists retreat and fresh new green sprouts forth in new leaves softly. 

Who could resist the urge to flee from formulas and letters  

And like the free ascending birds Over imposing mountains where—see —eternal flowers bloom near our Italian cousins. 

The postcard did reach its intended recipient, thirty-year-old Clara Immerwahr, whom Fritz Haber had met many years earlier. And Immerwahr did travel to Freiburg.

There are several suppliers of electron accelerators suitable for remote repair of composites, including Varian, Siemans, and Schonberg. At present, the only manufacturer of suitable portable electron accelerators is Schonberg Radiation Corporation of Santa Clara, California. Field repair of damaged aircraft components can be accomplished with a remotely controlled, truck-mounted accelerator. Table 13 gives the characteristics for several electron accelerators, all portable, supplied by Schonberg. Fig. 5 shows a schematic layout of a 10-MeV accelerator...

Corrective Action Application Case 1 - Groundwater at the MEMOREX Computer Tape Plant (Santa Clara, California) was contaminated by a leaking underground solvent storage tank (Skladany et al., 1987). During World War I. Haber was in charge of the German poison gas program. In April of 1915. the Germans used chlorine for the first time on the Western front, causing 5000 fatalities. Haber s wife. Clara, was aghast she pleaded with her husband to forsake poison gas. When he adamantly refused to do so. she committed suicide.

Lipid regulators are ordinarily applied drugs in clinical practice, and they are used to lower the level of cholesterol and regulate the metabolism of lipids. Clara et al. [13] detected a lipid regulator bezafibrate at concentrations up to 7.6 pg L although normally they are found at lower nanograms per liter range [8,18,21,22]. 

In all countries with developed medical care, X-ray contrast media can be expected to be present at appreciable quantities in sewage water. Clara et al [13] detected iopromide at a mean concentration of 3.84 pg in the influent of a WWTP receiving hospital wastewater, while in WWTPs without a hospital within their drainage area this contrast media was not present. lodinated X-ray contrast media are proved to contribute significantly to total absorbable organic iodine in clinical wastewaters up to 130 pg of iodine in the influent of municipal WWTP in Berlin and 10 mg in hospital sewage was detected [23].

During the summer of 1901, Haber met Clara Immerwahr at a chemistry conference. Like Haber, Clara came from an assimilated Jewish family in Breslau. Her father was a well-to-do chemist who operated a beet sugar factory on his estate. As students, Clara and Fritz had met in a dancing class and fallen in love, but parental opposition had prevented the match. When they met again, Haber immediately proposed. 

Clara Immerwahr was not sure she was suited for marriage. At 30, she had a teaching certificate and a doctorate, the first earned by a woman at the University of Breslau. Her degree was in chemistry, and she was eager for a research career. Nonetheless, after only three days, she accepted his proposal. Otherwise, she said, one chord of my soul would lie fallow. ...
