Use of dendrimers such as PAMAM, PPI and poly(ether hydro q lamine) (PEHAM) in drug deliveiy is mostly focused on cancer treatment. Dendrimers encapsulate anticancer drugs such as cisplatin and doxorubicin and agents for boron neutron capture therapy and photodynamic therapy. Cisplatin encapsulated dendrimers are reported to increase the bioavailability and selectivity of the drug on a solid tumor model which was provided by injection of B16F10 cells to C57 mice. ... [Pg.283]

To check the activity of cisplatin encapsulated HA-ODA nanoparticles, with and without PEG, we used the same resistant A549 tumours as previously. Mice treated with either cisplatin or HA-ODA/ cisplatin or HA-ODA/PEG/cisplatin nanoparticles showed tumour growth inhibition compared to the PBS treated group. In addition to showing slightly better efficacy compared to the other two at the early time points, the HA-ODA/cisplatin system also demonstrated some favourable safety properties compared to the other two, thus it was selected for the combination efficacy study [23]. [Pg.79]

Thioethers form stable complexes, particularly if they are polydentate. Whereas only two sulfur atoms are coordinated in Ph2Pt(9S3),26 larger macrocycles, as in [Pt(12S4)]2+, can encapsulate the metal atom.27 The L-methionine complex (18-H-XII) is a metabolite of the anti-cancer drug cisplatin (see below).28... [Pg.1075]

Preparations of liposomes via SCF processing are designated as critical fluid liposomes (CFLs). CFLs have successfully encapsulated hydrophobic drugs such as taxoids, camptothecins, doxorubicin, vincristine, and cisplatin. In addition, stable paclitaxel liposomes with a size of 150-250 nm were obtained. Aphios Co. s patent (US Patent 5,776,486) on Super-Fluids CFL describes a method that is useful for the nanoencapsulation of paclitaxel and campothecin in aqueous liposomal formulations called Taxosomes and Camposomes , respectively. [Pg.3579]

Cisplatin is an effective and frequently used anti-cancer drug against a variety of solid tumours. The first trials of encapsulation faced the problem of low drug to lipid ratio due to the limited solubility of cisplatin resulting in low bioavailability. ... [Pg.436]
