At the 58th TSRC, Loureau et al. (2400d) described the influence of cigarette paper and filter ventilation on the yields of Hoffmann analytes. ... [Pg.1010]

TCDD were found in bleached coffee filters (5 ppt), unbleached coffee filters (2.0 ppt), bleached shopping bags (1.3 ppt), and cigarette paper (1.4 ppt) (Wiberg et al. 1989). Concentrations were found to be lower in the unbleached products than in the corresponding bleached products (Wiberg et al. 1989). [Pg.491]

Because of its vapor pressure properties, phenol is present in both the particulate phase and the vapor phase of cigarette MSS aerosol. Thus, it is amenable to removal from the vapor phase by selective filtration and to reduction of its level in the particulate phase by all the technologies whereby MSS particulate phase or tar delivery is reduced, for example, filtration efficiency, air dilution (increased paper porosity, filter-tip ventilation), and inclusion of expanded tobacco in the blend. [Pg.224]

In the examination of paper ash, a strip (about 2x3 mm) of the specimen is ashed on a crucible lid until the residue has become as near white as possible. The ash is treated with a drop of the reagent solution, and it turns gray or black at once, or in a few minutes, according to the amount of alkali present. The ash of cigarette paper, newspaper, writing paper, and qualitative filter paper turns black immediately owing to the high alkali content, but the ash of quantitative paper shows almost no reaction. [Pg.527]

Most of the acetic acid is produced in the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, France, Canada, and Mexico. Total annual production in these countries is close to four million tons. Uses include the manufacture of vinyl acetate [108-05-4] and acetic anhydride [108-24-7]. Vinyl acetate is used to make latex emulsion resins for paints, adhesives, paper coatings, and textile finishing agents. Acetic anhydride is used in making cellulose acetate fibers, cigarette filter tow, and ceUulosic plastics. [Pg.64]

A Del Electronics, Model ESP-100A, electrostatic precipitator was used for sample collection. Cigarette smoke particles were found to give approx the same particle distribution pattern on the collection filter paper as the gunshot residue, and since the smoke stains the paper, this provided a v rapid technique for optimizing operation conditions. With a flow rate of 15cfm and a corona current of 125 uA, the residue collects primarily on a narrow band across the sample paper. Samples were collected on Whatman No 1541 filter paper which lined the inside of the sample collection tube. The presence of this paper allowed air to flow only thru the center of the tube, so particle collection was made upon the filter paper exclusively. The filter paper samples were pelletized prior to neutron activation analysis... [Pg.376]

In contrast, ASTM E 218722 is a test for assessing the ignition power of cigarettes. In the test, the cigarettes are assessed for their capability of igniting the filter paper (as a surrogate for a cellulosic fabric). In this case, the cigarette is the item to be assessed and not the fabric or the foam. [Pg.652]

Acetate Tow A yellowish powder that is a byproduct of paper bleaching, used for cigarette filters and medical gauze. [Pg.11]
