Chromatography recent advances

Most of the history of SFC has involved analytical-scale chromatography. Recent advances have made both analytical and semipreparative chromatography highly desirable. The term semipreparative (semiprep) refers to the separation of milligrams to grams of materials to prepare modest amounts of material for testing. It is distinct from preparative-scale chromatography, where the intent is the production of the final product or an intermediate of the final product.

This chapter will review recent advances in mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, and sample preparation techniques that aim at achieving high throughput. In particular, online solid phase extraction and multiplexed HPLC front ends for quantitative bioanalysis will be discussed in detail. 

Recent advances in capillary column technology presume stringent performance levels for the other components of a gas chromatograph as column performance is only as good as that of the rest of the system. One of the most important factors in capillary column gas chromatography is that a high repeatability of retention times be ensured even under adverse ambient conditions.
