Cherry combined

Benzoic acid in the free state, or in the form of simple derivatives such as salts, esters, and amides, is widely distributed in nature. Gum benzoin (from styrax ben in) may contain as much as 20% benzoic acid in the free state or in combinations easily broken up by heating. Acaroid resin (from anthorrhoca haslilis) contains from 4.5 to 7%. Smaller amounts of the free acid are found in natural products including the scent glands of the beaver, the bark of the black cherry tree, cranberries, pmnes, ripe cloves, and oil of anise seed. Pern and Tolu balsams contain benzyl benzoate the latter contains free benzoic acid as well. The urine of herbivorous animals contains a small proportion of the glycine derivative of benzoic acid, hippuric acid [495-69-2] (CgH CONHCH2COOH). So-called natural benzoic acid is not known to be available as an item of commerce. [Pg.52]

Alone, beet colorant produces hues resembling raspberry or cherry. When used ia combination with water-soluble annatto, strawberry shades result. [Pg.450]

Similarly, the effectiveness of chitosan and short hypobaric treatments, alone or in reciprocal combination, to control storage decay of sweet cherries, was investigated over 2 years. In combined treatments, sweet cherries were dipped in 1.0% chitosan and then exposed to 0.50 and 0.25 atm, or sprayed with chitosan (0.1, 0.5, and 1.0%) 7 days before harvest and exposed to 0.50 atm soon after harvest. A combined treatment with 1.0% chitosan and 0.50 atm was the best in controlling decay, showing in the first year, a synergistic effect in the reduction of brown rot and total rots [238]. [Pg.184]

Some people prefer dark chocolate. Others go for the gooey chocolate-covered cherries. Many don t care for coconut in their sweets. And most people are happy with any mixture of any kind. Different kinds of candies have different prices, depending on the ingredients. When you combine different candies in packages, the quality or price of each type is multiplied by the quantity or weight to determine the price of the mixture. [Pg.195]

Red cabbage as a colorant source has been studied for many years. As of 1990 at least one firm has introduced San Red RC, the first commercially available food color derived from red cabbage. The color can be used alone or in combination with other colors to create strawberry, cherry, raspberry, and blueberry tones. By way of proprietary technology, the new dye is claimed to be free of flavor and odor defects, which in the past have been associated with red cabbage. The dye is pH dependent. The color tones move toward blue-red as the pH value increases. San Red RC ranks between cochineal and grape juice in percent or color retention. [Pg.420]

Decomposition is slowed by storage in dark locutions, Peaches, apricots, biller almonds, cherries, and plums contain some HCN derivatives in their kernels, frequently in combination with glucose and henzaldchydc as a glucosttle taniygdulmi The bitter almond fragrance of HCN and its derivatives sometimes can be detected in such kernels. [Pg.804]

Norvir (ritonavir, ABT-538) by Abbott (Kalamazoo/MI, USA) in phase II demonstrated a 100-fold reduction of viral count, more than Crixivan and AZT. The threefold enhancement of CD4-T cell count after 12 weeks is also an improvement over AZT. However, even ABT-538 develops resistances, albeit more slowly than Crixivan. Hepatic side effects limit doses to 600 mg twice daily. Ritonavir has high oral bioavailability, about 78% in rats, good solubility (5.3 g IT1 (pH 7.4) to 6.9 g L-1 (pH 4.0)), and a plasma half-life of 1.2 h (Kempf, 1995). The molecule is difficult to produce in phase II, the overall yield in production was 2% ( ) in addition, the product was cherry-red. The combination of ritonavir and saquinavir has also been reported to dramatically increase saquinavir plasma concentrations (by as much as 50-fold). Ritonavir is believed to act by inhibiting cytochrome P450 (CYP 3A4), the enzyme responsible for saquinavir first-pass metabolism. [Pg.392]
