Centrifuges peeler type

Medium rate filtering is accomplished with vacuum drums or disks or peeler-type centrifuges.

Starting with the fixed bed, batch or cychc centrifuges, these have a cyhndrical screen onto which the feed suspension is fed and the cake is stationary. This feature makes it possible to separate relatively finer particles than in the continuous moving bed machines. The perforate basket (or three point ) centrifuge and the peeler type centrifuge are examples in this category. 

The underflow of the suspension is passed freely to the centrifuge. Depending on the crystal size distribution, there is a choice of at least four different types of centrifuges (Figure 11.23). The sieve decanter and the peeler-type centrifuge are selected for the separation of finer products. The pusher-type centrifuge or the sieve/worm centrifuges are used for coarser products. Depending on the CSD there is the choice between approximately four types of centrifuges, the decanting type and peeler type for the finer products, the sieve-worm type and the pusher type for normal products (Figure 9.23). The final drying of the product in most of the cases is proceeded in draft-tube or vibrating fluidised-bed dryers (Figures 9.24 and 9.25). 

Rotary-Siphon Peeler Centrifuges In this type of centrifuge, a partial vacuum is drawn on the outer diameter or tne filter such that the filtrate flows through the cake under both centrifugal force as well as a positive pressure difference of about I atm or less. Thus, a higher rate of filtration takes place due to the increased driving force. 

Peeler centrifuges are also batch-continuous machines where the cake is removed by a plough. Different solids content feedstocks can therefore be handled in this type of unit, provided that they do not clog up the filter medium. A high degree of automation can be achieved with this type of unit. 

Pharma Peeler Centrifuge For apphcations requiring hygienic operation, a special type of peeler centrifuge was developed in the 1990s (Fig. 18-169). 

Centrifugal filters are also used quite widely in the fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals sector. They can either be of the perforated basket type (as shown in Figure 4.30), with manual, bag or knife unloading of filter cake, or the peeler, operating with a horizontal axis and with cake removal by a peeling knife into a discharge chute.
