Disc-bowl centrifuge

The conical discs in a disc bowl centrifuge split the liquid flow into a number of very thin layers, which greatly increases the separating efficiency. Disc bowl centrifuges are used for separating liquids and fine solids, and for solids classification. [Pg.417]

In the clarification step of microbial suspensions, the tubular and disc centrifugal methods are often used. The tubular bowl centrifuge consists of a vertical cylinder, which rotates between 15 000 and 50 000 rpm, inside a stationary casting. The disc bowl centrifuge contains inverted cones or discs, which operate at 2000-7000 rpm. Due to the continuous and discontinuous operational behaviour of such centrifuges, the tubular centrifuge is applied to suspensions with a maximum of 30 g L of cells, while in the disc, suspensions up to 250 g can be processed. ... [Pg.54]

Tubular bowl centrifuges usually incorporate continuous centrate discharge and batch solids recovery, and operate at variable speeds up to 20,000 G. Although primarily intended for liquid-liquid separation, they can also be used for recovery or classification of ultra-fine solids. These sedimenting centrifuges (disc, decanter and tubular bowl) are described further in Section 7. [Pg.264]
