Establishing "centres of excellence" concentrating on PEM, fuel cells with circulating electrolytes and SOFC. 

Towards a hydrogen-based society is a centre of excellence on catalysis, storage and demonstration of small energy units and is supported by the Research Council ( 3 million). The centre is made up by key university and industrial research communities and has a strong focus on fundamental research while at the same time establishing collaboration between basic and applied science communities including Danish industry. 

In an effort to revert the negative trend in innovation and prodnctivity, Glaxo SmithKline has created the Centres of Excellence for Drng Discovery (CEDDs), in Jannary 2004. They are focused on one therapeutic area each, such as oncology or respiratory disease. Individual CEDDs can start phase II development without recourse to any other body...

The perturbation calculations show that with proper consideration of solvation effects, theory can match experiment, and moreover can provide explanations of unexpected trends in binding data. Unfortunately, at present these calculations require hefty computer power, and a degree of expertise that exists in just a few centres of excellence. It will be a few years yet before they become routine. 

Studies at the frontiers of NOM research in the present era require state-of-the-art instrumentation, and it will be very difficult for any one laboratory to have all the equipment needed to make comprehensive advances in certain aspects of NOM studies. Thus future frontiers research may involve a limited number of laboratories fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment operated by experts. To obtain optimum advances and instrumentation, scientists might be encouraged to take their samples, prepared by state-of-the-art procedures, to Centres of Excellence equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and operators.
