Emulsifier cationic

Poly(vinyl acetate) emulsions can be made with a surfactant alone or with a protective coUoid alone, but the usual practice is to use a combination of the two. Normally, up to 3 wt % stabilizers may be included in the recipe, but when water sensitivity or tack of the wet film is desired, as in some adhesives, more may be included. The most commonly used surfactants are the anionic sulfates and sulfonates, but cationic emulsifiers and nonionics are also suitable. Indeed, some emulsion compounding formulas require the use of cationic or nonionic surfactants for stable formulations. The most commonly used protective coUoids are poly(vinyl alcohol) and hydroxyethyl cellulose, but there are many others, natural and synthetic, which are usable if not preferable for a given appHcation. [Pg.464]

Is a moderately low foaming emulsifier for mineral oil, waxes, solvents, and vegetable oils and contributes to the wetting, lubricating, and softening properties of the end product. It is used as a solvent emulsifier for low-foaming dye carriers, as a dyeing assistant, and as a cationic emulsifier for polyethylene textile softeners. Okamura et al, (29) studied the y-induced emulsion polymerization of styrene, methyl methacrylate (MMA), and vinyl acetate with anionic, nonionic, and cationic emulsifying agents and dose rates of 270 to 2 X 10 rad per hour. The over-all reaction rate increased with increasing emulsifier concentration, but depended highly on the kind of emulsifying agent. In the case of MMA, the over-all reaction rate increased with (I = intensity or dose rate). [Pg.61]

Comments cationic emulsifying wax is claimed to be of particular value in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations when cationic characteristics are important. Thus it can be used in medicated creams, germicidal creams, ointments and lotions, hair conditioners, baby creams, and skin care products in which cationic compounds are included. Cationic emulsifying wax is compatible with cationic and nonionic materials, but is incompatible with anionic surfactants and drugs.
