How did the internship broaden your view on future career opportunities Here we look for comments on how the internship helped the student to form an idea of what he or she would like to do after completing his master degree. Examples can be do a Ph.D., go to work for a multinational, go abroad, or that the internship did not have any significant influence on the choice for a future career. 

Career opportunities for students with a bachelor s degree include poultry form manager (as owner or employee), feed mill or hatchery manager, and salesperson for feeds, breeding or production stock, or equipment. 

Earning a university degree is one necessary step over the threshold into science, engineering and technology (SET) and opens attractive career opportunities in academia and practice. Hence equal chances for men and women of different nationalities and age within SET is not just an issue of social and individual costs but also of socio-political importance. 

Implications for Practice. Time-to-degree in STEM fields must be shortened. The U.S. can make STEM career prospects more attractive to its citizens by increasing the number and size of stipends available from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and other government agencies. Since these awards are limited to U.S. citizens, they represent a strategic tool for differentiating U.S. citizens from non-citizens (Freeman, 2004). If the gap is to be eliminated, the disparities in educational opportunities associated with social class and race, will have to be eliminated beginning at preschool. This is critical to increase the representation of African American STEM careers. 

As highlighted earlier in my talk, P G is committed to building a diverse workforce, and our R D community is no exception. However, our ability to attract and hire the best minority scientists is directly impacted by the fact that the number of minority candidates with advanced science degrees is woefully small. P G cannot immediately or directly fill this academic pipeline, but we can help by providing a demand for such candidates, and thus indirectly attract more minority students to pursue science careers. Because all aspects of our education system are potential feeders into this pipeline, we take the opportunity to interact with all phases of education and, in the end, hopefully make a positive difference.
