CARD method

Collection Mechanism The trusty index card will work for performing inspections, but this requires the individual to remember the inspection criteria or refer to an inspection list and make notes about observations. A clipboard with a predefined set of questions (that can be answered yes or no ) for each machine is a definite improvement on the index card method. Be sure to leave a space for comments. Both the index card and the clipboard approach require manual entry of the data once they are collected. A more modern approach is to set up the inspection in an industrial-quality personal digital assistant. For each machine, the inspector can answer yes or no, and as required, write short comments. These comments could be selected from a drop-down menu to minimize inconsistency. The data can then be uploaded to a host computer for storage. This speeds the process, ensures that the data will be captured, and reduces transposition errors.

No one system will work for every situation, but engineers must ask themselves if a Web page is up-to-date, reliable, credible, and accurate before using any of its information. The CARDS method provides some simple steps engineers can use in evaluating information resources until they gain experience and their information literacy skills become more developed. One basic rule is to not use Web sites simply because they are more convenient. A Web site, like other resources, must add some value and provide quality information. 

Currently, the elaboration of methods for the objective control of the authenticity of important documents, such as passports, securities, licenses, certificates, identification cards, etc., is being intensively developed. 

The solutions to this approximation are obtained numerically. Fast Fourier transfonn methods and a refomuilation of the FINC (and other integral equation approximations) in tenns of the screened Coulomb potential by Allnatt [M are especially useful in the numerical solution. Figure A2.3.12 compares the osmotic coefficient of a 1-1 RPM electrolyte at 25°C with each of the available Monte Carlo calculations of Card and Valleau [ ]. 

Texturing. The final step in olefin fiber production is texturing the method depends primarily on the appHcation. For carpet and upholstery, the fiber is usually bulked, a procedure in which fiber is deformed by hot air or steam jet turbulence in a no22le and deposited on a moving screen to cool. The fiber takes on a three-dimensional crimp that aids in developing bulk and coverage in the final fabric. Stuffer box crimping, a process in which heated tow is overfed into a restricted oudet box, imparts a two-dimensional sawtooth crimp commonly found in olefin staple used in carded nonwovens and upholstery yams. 

Depending on the method of data read-out, respectively read-in/read-out, two systems are distinguished mechanooptical systems with usually disk-shaped media (optical disks), and purely optical systems with card-shaped media without moving parts (optical memory cards). 

Fermentation is carded out in two different, very distinct ways top fermentation and bottom fermentation. The governing principles are the same in both processes the chief differences are in the type of yeast and temperature employed, and consequently the method used for collecting the yeast after fermentation is finished. The alcohol content and, to a higher degree, the taste and stabiUty of the beer, are directly dependent on the normal progress of the fermentation. 

Chemical tests for particular types of impurities, e.g. for peroxides in aliphatic ethers (with acidified KI), or for water in solvents (quantitatively by the Karl Fischer method, see Fieser and Fieser, Reagents for Organic Synthesis J. Wiley Sons, NY, Vol 1 pp. 353, 528, 1967, Library of Congress Catalog Card No 66-27894). 

Ringelmann chart A method for the visual comparison of smoke from a chimney. The estimation is made by the comparison of the shade of smoke against shade cards. 

The most X-ray intensive screening method was described by Card et al. [8] on the design of phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors (Figure 1.7). The authors initially biochemically screened a 20,000 member library of small molecular weight (120-350 MW) core scaffold compounds against 5-PDE isoforms at 200 pM. Multiple isoforms of PDE were used in order to eliminate the number of false positives obtained from the screen. There were 316... 

Unfortunately, both the drug-reminder cards and packaging methods described here must be made for each patient on an individual basis, and some people are not willing to take the extra time needed to prepare these systems.
