Carcinogenesis initiation stage

Carcinogenesis develops in three stages initiation, promotion, and progression. Chem-ical substances can act at the initiation stage or at the promotion stage. Moreover, some chemicals have both initiating and promoting activities. [Pg.242]

In contrast, promotion is reversible to some extent, and it is only effective following, not preceding, the initiating events. These discoveries suggest that only the initiation stage of carcinogenesis has an absolute requirement for the chemical carcinogen. [Pg.11]

Goerttler, K. and Laehrke, H. (1976). "Diaplacental carcinogenesis initiation with the carcinogens dimethyl-benzanthracene (DMBA) and urethane during fetal life and postnatal promotion with the phorbol ester TPA in a modified 2-stage BerenblumyMottram experiment, Virch. Arch. Path. Anat. HistoL 372,29. [Pg.139]

Evaluates the two-stage concept of carcinogenesis (initiation and promotion)... [Pg.415]

In addition, the effect of Chlorella vulgaris administration on skin papillomas induced by 7, 12-dimethylbenzantracene (DMBA) was examined in mice [2]. Topical application of Chlorella vulgaris modulated the percent incidence of mice skin papillomas in the initiation stages of carcinogenesis by DMBA. [Pg.762]

The mechanism of chemical carcinogenesis has been explained by either a two-stage theory or multi-stage theory which consists of initiation, promotion and progression stages [3]. In these stages, the initiation stage... [Pg.215]

Resveratrol has been reported to inhibit all three stages of carcinogenesis initiation, progression, and promotion in several types of cancer. Several reports suggested that resveratrol inhibits cancer initiation in various model systems. Sharma et al. found that resveratrol reduced 12-0-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced free-radical formation in human promyelocytic leukemia cells HL-60. In another model, resveratrol also inhibited 7,12-dimethylbenzfi3)anthracene (DMBA)-induced preneoplastic lesion in... [Pg.549]
