A number of cytotoxic agents have demonstrated significant singleagent activity in chemotherapy-naive patients with limited- and extensive-disease SCLC, but the activity in recurrent or refractory SCLC is modest. Among the more commonly used chemotherapy agents in the United States are cisplatin, carboplatin, etoposide (intravenous and oral regimens), topotecan, paclitaxel, docetaxel, and gemcitabine. [Pg.2377]

JP is receiving a highly myelosuppressive chemotherapy regimen for the next 3 days for his lymphoma. The chemotherapy orders specify ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide. The goal of this cycle of chemotherapy is to put the cancer into remission so that his lymphoma can be cured with a bone marrow transplant. [Pg.1298]

CAV, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine EC, etoposide carboplatin EP, etoposide cisplatin IC, irinotecan, cisplatin. See Table 87M for doses and schedules. [Pg.1331]

The most frequently used regimen is cisplatin or carboplatin combined with etoposide. Irinotecan in combination with cisplatin has also been shown to be active (see Table 63-1). Overall response rates and survival durations are generally superior for patients with limited stage versus those with extensive stage disease. [Pg.716]

ICE (ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide) appears to be better tolerated than cisplatin-containing regimens, especially in elderly adults. [Pg.724]

Chemotherapeutic agents that have significant cancer response when combined with hyperthermia (up to 43°C) include doxorubicin, melphalan, mitomycin C (MMC), mitoxantrone, gemcitabine, etoposide, and especially the platinum-based agents carboplatin and oxaliplatin (Mohamed et al., 2003 Sugarbaker et al., 2005). Agents that do not work well with hyperthermia include irinotecan, paclitaxel, docetaxel, 5-fluorouracil, and floxuridine (Mohamed et al., 2003 Sugarbaker et al., 2005). [Pg.238]

Metastatic osteosarcoma has a poor prognosis unless the disease is confined to the lungs and is resectable. Palliative chemotherapy can be employed with a number of drugs including doxorubicin, cisplatin, carboplatin, methotrexate, ifosfamide and etoposide. [Pg.720]

Reconstitution of full-length BRCAl into mouse embryonic fibroblast cells with a disrupted BRCAl led to an increase in resistance to several DNA damaging agents, including the platinum compounds carboplatin and oxaliplatin, the topoisomerase 1 drugs irinotecan and topotecan, and the topoisomerase 11 drugs doxorubicin and etoposide (61). [Pg.238]

Moreover, Fiorillo et al. [393] studied the effect of a combination of liposomal daunorubicin, etoposide, and carboplatin administered to seven children with recurrent malignant supratentorial brain tumors as a second-line therapy. Chemotherapy consisted of infusion of liposomal daunorubicin on days 1 and 2 and infusion of etoposide and carboplatin on day 1 whereas courses were repeated every 3M weeks. After a total of eight courses, five of seven children evaluated were alive 12-64 months after diagnosis and 8-29 months from the start of the second-line chemotherapy. Of the seven children, three showed complete response, two partial responses, one stable disease, and one progressive disease. The time to the best response was 3-10 months, while the median time to progression was 23 months. The toxicity observed was minimum. [Pg.489]

A 52-year-old patient with glioblastoma developed severe ocular and orbital toxicity after receiving intracarotid etoposide phosphate and carboplatin (268). Acutely non-pupiUary block angle-closure glaucoma developed secondary to uveal effusion in the ipsilateral eye. Four days later, severe orbital inflammation resulted in reduced visual acuity, proptosis, optic neuropathy, and total external ophthalmoplegia. [Pg.2864]
