Carbon technique development applied

We have recently developed a gas-phase ion chromatography technique and applied it to carbon cluster cations " " and anions""". A pulse of mass-selected cluster ions is injected into a high-pressure drift cell filled with 2-5 torr of helium. The ionic mobilities of different isomeric structures depend on their different collision cross-sections with He, and the isomers are therefore separated while drifting through the cell, under the influence of a weak electric field. The absolute value of the ionic mobility for a given cluster together with computer simulations often allows unambiguous determination of the cluster... [Pg.52]

While pyrolysis may he applied to these kinds of samples with good success, internal reflection may yield a sufficiently useful spectrum to allow identification of the major constituent. Another technique developed by L. Kalervo (private communication) involves elimination of the carbon as... [Pg.497]

A new method for permeability prediction of carbonate formations with their very complex pore structures was published by Trevizan et al. (2014). From core permeability data and NMR measurements, a radial-basis-function (RBF) prediction model was developed. The model analyses a small number of principal components instead of the full spectrum. This robust technique was applied on offshore Brazil wells. [Pg.105]

The mechanical properties of plastics materials may often be considerably enhanced by embedding fibrous materials in the polymer matrix. Whilst such techniques have been applied to thermoplastics the greatest developents have taken place with the thermosetting plastics. The most common reinforcing materials are glass and cotton fibres but many other materials ranging from paper to carbon fibre are used. The fibres normally have moduli of elasticity substantially greater than shown by the resin so that under tensile stress much of the load is borne by the fibre. The modulus of the composite is intermediate to that of the fibre and that of the resin. [Pg.921]

Another interesting field is the utilization of unused resources such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, etc. Development of useful copolymers is expected to come by applying the modern techniques of polymer chemistry. Ring-opening copolymerization should be one of the most likely methods for this purpose. [Pg.37]
