Carbon dioxide anomalies

Pregnant females were sacrificed by carbon dioxide anesthesia on day 21 of gestation the uterine horns were exteriorized through a midline incision in the abdominal wall, and the number and position of live, dead, and resorbed fetuses were noted. After being weighed and sexed, the fetuses were examined for external anomalies the crown-rump length was measured with a vernier caliper. Half of each litter was preserved in Bouin s solution and later examined for soft tissue anomalies (16) the other half was preserved in alcohol, cleared and stained with Alizarin red-S, and examined for skeletal abnormalities (2).

The primary purpose of this section has been to show the possibilities for using density and area profile data to aid in the better understanding of gas-carbon reactions. In order to determine specific reaction rates and carbon dioxide concentrations at given penetrations, it has been necessary to make assumptions which can only be approximations to the truth. Several major anomalies in the results have been found, however. The calculated concentrations of carbon dioxide at the external surface of rods reacted at 1200 (Table VI) and 1305° are not in agreement with the known carbon dioxide concentrations. Clearly, more information is required on the variation of Deir with temperature and its variation with porosity produced at different reaction temperatures. It is feasible that at high temperatures, considerable porosity may be produced without increasing Deo to such a marked extent as found at 900°. Another anomaly is the non-uniformity of reaction found at 925°, when it would be expected that the reaction should be in Zone I. Carbon dioxide, probably introduced at the time of emplacement of mineralisation, occurs in a form that is easily released at 100°C as halo around and above many mineral deposits. Along soil traverses over nine mineral deposits in China, determination of this CO2 yields good-contrast anomalies, even when the mineralisation is deeply buried. There is also an elevated CO2 expression in soils over faults in mineralised areas.

A process in which an increase in the amount of water vapor increases the atmosphere s absorption of longwave radiation, thereby contributing to a warming of the atmosphere. Warming, in turn, may result in increased evaporation and an increase in the initial water vapor anomaly. This feedback, along with carbon dioxide, is responsible for the greenhouse effect and operates virtually continuously in the atmosphere, weather... 

Bonds between carbon and oxygen (C—O) are more polar than bonds between sulfur and oxygen (S—O). Nevertheless, sulfur dioxide (SO2) exhibits a dipole moment while carbon dioxide (CO2) does not. Explain this apparent anomaly.

FAS is normally characterized by growth retardation, anomalies of the head and face, and psychomotor dysfunctions. Excessive consumption of ethyl alcohol may lead to malformations of the heart, extremities, and kidneys. Since consumption of ethyl alcohol is socially acceptable and prevalent even in pregnant women, the risks associated with the use of ethyl alcohol are remarkable. However, it should be kept in mind that there are several chemical compounds in tlie occupational environment that may also cause malformations even at low doses. The oc-cupationally-important known human teratogens include methyl mercury, ethyl alcohol, PCB compounds, tobacco smoke, lead, TCDD, 2,4,5- F, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, gasoline, and fluoride.
