Capsule histology

Like the in vitro studies, the in vivo degradation of the TMC-CL copolymers containing 89% CL showed no change in shape or size after one year. As the degradation of the TMC-CL copolymers was so slow, a mature fibrous capsule remained throughout the year. Histological results of the TMC-CL copolymers were similar to those obtained from TMC-DLLA or other commonly used biodegradable polymers. 

Three of four dogs fed 0.3 g of PNB (in capsule) three times/week for up to 33 months developed bladder tumors. The total dose administered ranged from 7 to lOg/kg in the affected dogs the animal that did not develop bladder tumors was the largest and therefore had received less of the compound per kilogram of body weight (5.5g/kg). The tumors produced by PNB were identical histologically with those produced by 4-aminobiphenyl. ... 

Histological examination of reproductive organs did not reveal any effects in rats or mice treated by gavage with isophorone for 13 or 103 weeks (NTP 1986), in rats treated with isophorone in the diet for 13 weeks (AME Inc 1972a), or in dogs treated with isophorone in gelatine capsules for 13 weeks (AME Inc 1972b). In none of these studies, however, were specific tests of reproductive function performed, which would be necessary to rule out an effect. Therefore, the doses used in these studies cannot be considered NOAELs for effects on reproduction. 

Intermediate-duration gavage exposure to a higher FireMaster FF-1 dose of 30 mg/kg/day for 4.5 weeks caused dilation of Bowman s capsule with serous fluid in rats observed for 60 days posttreatment (Gupta and Moore 1979) however, rats that were similarly treated (< 30 mg/kg/day for 30 days) but observed longer (90 days posttreatment) had normal kidney histology, urinalysis values, and BUN (Gupta et al.

To date, there has only been one single observation of a chondroma. (124) This tumour was excessively large (19 X 15 X 9.5 cm) it was hypervascularized, had a multilobular structure and did not possess a capsule. Focal calcifications were detectable. Chondrocyte-like cells and a chondroid matrix were found. Such a tumour can be visualized by imaging procedures. Laparoscopically, a hard, nodular surface is detectable. Diagnosis can only be confirmed histologically. 

The natural course of disease shows an average survival rate of 5 months (2-8 months). Longer courses of HCC have only been observed occasionally some 3% of patients survive for 5 years. The number of tumour nodes as well as the existing cirrhosis correlate with the likelihood of recurrence. In contrast, the histological degree of tumour differentiation as well as potential capsule or bile formation by the tumour are unlikely or still disputed risk factors for a relapse. This is also true of the biological features of the tumour, such as ploidy, mitosis rate and proliferation marker index. (57, 108)... 

Constrictive pericarditis The clinical picture and hepatic changes of the liver are similar to those of the Budd-Chiari syndrome. Considerable thickening of the liver capsule may resemble sugar icing. The liver is enlarged and firm. Tense ascites is present. Histologically, the changes resemble those of cardiac cirrhosis. 

Histology of a Capsule, Vanilla.—The Vanilla fruit is a one-celled capsule formed by the union of three carpellary leaves and dehiscing by two unequal longitudinal valves.
