Biological standards and reference materials are stored at the appropriate temperature in controlled, calibrated, monitored, and alarmed storage facilities. The freeze-dried materials are normally stored at —20°C to maintain stability over the period of the materials availability, which may be a decade or more. Freeze-dried materials should be sufficiently stable to withstand short-term shipping at ambient temperatures without deterioration to their intended use. 

The spectral linewidth of the infrared radiation is determined by that of the two pump lasers. With frequency stabilization of the pump lasers, a linewidth of a few megahertz has been reached for the difference-frequency spectrometer. In combination with a multiplexing scheme devised for calibration, monitoring, drift compensation, and absolute stabilization of the difference spectrometer, a continuous scan of 7.5 cm has been achieved with a reproducibility of better than 10MHz [5.278]. 

Industrial hygiene and safety. Gas mixtures are used to calibrate monitors that check the quality of air of many plants. The monitors check the atmospheric concentration of flammable or toxic gases. 

The samples to be added are analyzed by the primary reference method and the new population of calibration samples resubmitted to the entire calibration procedure. After the best equation for each constituent has been selected, continue to monitor the analysis of this new equation. Depending on the spectral variation of the new population to be predicted, the calibration, monitoring, and recalibration procedure many need to be repeated a number of times.
