Calculation of Weights

Using this concept, Burdett developed a method in 1955 to obtain the concentrations in mono-, di- and polynuclear aromatics in gas oils from the absorbances measured at 197, 220 and 260 nm, with the condition that sulfur content be less than 1%. Knowledge of the average molecular weight enables the calculation of weight per cent from mole per cent. As with all methods based on statistical sampling from a population, this method is applicable only in the region used in the study extrapolation is not advised and usually leads to erroneous results. [Pg.56]

These calculations are so basic to the field that you should go back and carefully review the two examples in this section the calculation of weight percents in N2O and the inference of the formula for aluminum oxide. Then you can practice stoichiometric calculations on the following pair of problems, which are answered and explained in Appendix A. Many such practice exercises are included in this book so you can determine whether you understand the major concepts of chemistry. It is well worth your time to study these examples and their explanations in Appendix A until you can do the calculations correctly. [Pg.22]

In the molar mass range below 1.000 Da SFC has advantages, because MALDI-MS cannot provide for indication of smaller molecules in this range. As the problem of discrimination remains in the lower molecular mass range, it is not yet possible to replace SEC of PDMS by MALDI-MS. But this technique is useful to get an idea about the order of magnitude of molar mass distribution. Calculations of weight... [Pg.629]

The quantitative treatment of electrochemical reactions is made in the same way as the calculation of weight relations in ordinary chemical reactions, with use of the faraday to represent one mole of electrons. [Pg.304]

There arc many formulas for the calculation of weighted averages. For example, the number-surface mean diameter calculates the mean diameter based upon the surface area and number of particles ... [Pg.43]

Whenever a hydrated compound is used, it is important to use the correct state of hydration in the calculation of weight concentration. Thus 10%w/v CaCl2 (anhydrous) is approximately equivalent to 20% w/v CaCl2 6H2 0 and consequently the use of the vague statement 10% calcium chloride could result in gross error. The SI unit of weight concentration is kg m which is numerically equal to g dm. ... [Pg.56]

Robotic NMR Assays. Spectra were collected on a Varian VXR300S spectrometer equipped with a Varian automatic sample management system (robot) with a 50 sample tray using the parameters described above. Customized software was developed for robot control providing full automated work-up of data including the calculation of weight percents and generation of analytical reports. [Pg.43]

To account also for heteroatoms, the augmented adjacency matrix can be used instead of the simple adjacency matrix in the calculation of weighted walk counts, where atomic weights are placed on the main diagonal to distinguish among different atom types. [Pg.877]

Si and Sj are properties of the individual components i and /, BiS is an interaction parameter characteristic of the binary system t/, and is equal to zero. For any multicomponent system, allowing the weighting factor Si of one component to be unity enables calculation of weighting factors and interaction parameters for all components and binary combinations in the mixture. [Pg.76]

The tube models a concrete folding mechanism by following the center of the tube and the fluctuations near that center. This concrete mechanism can be examined with respect to the overall funnel picture. For example, if the rate in the tube is exceptionally slow compared to the experimental rate, it is unlikely that the sampled tube is important. Computationally and conceptually, we should partition the funnel to tubes and analyze them one by one. We note that all the tubes meet at the folded state. Therefore the weight of each tube can be measured by overlapping the equilibrium flux into the reactant with the flux from a tube. The calculation of weights of tubes is a topic for future research. [Pg.307]

It is a common practice to quote confidence limits as a percentage of the value rather than as standard deviation. For example.
